Easter Eve

He stayed dry last night in his underwear! We really put him to the test too, because he slept 13.5 hours that night! I'm glad he caught up on some of that missed sleep and I'm so amazed and proud he stayed dry. Go E!

We all went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast, Easton discovered some toy cars he really liked. I made a mental note. :)

After breakfast we hung at home for a bit and then Dalton took a nap and Easton and I went to Lauren's dance recital. He likes going to those things.

We stopped by Wal-Mart and the grocery store on the way home to get my contributions to brunch tomorrow.

All the boys, Jason included, got their heads buzzed before bed. Nothing like a fresh 'do on Easter morn. :)

Once the boys went to bed that night we began a bit of Easter prep. When we were at the mall around Jason's birthday we saw the Easter Bunny. We didn't do an official visit but there was no one there and the employees were like, "You want to come see the Easter Bunny?" so Easton walked up and gave him a high five and the employee asked Easton what he wanted for Easter. Uh...you request Easter gifts like at Christmas? Hmmm. Well, he didn't come up with anything so the employee asked, "How 'bout a car?" and somehow E got stuck in his head that he had asked for a red car for Easter. So, I felt like he had to get one. I ran out to Cracker Barrel for the cars we'd seen than morning. It started snowing while I was out, so much for spring, eh? Jason hid some eggs for the morning and set out their baskets.

They Grow Up So Fast, Don't They?

Gosh, it's just like overnight Dalton learned to really walk, and he's getting better with communicating. "Ball" and "Kitty cat" have been recently added to his spoken vocab and his signs are "milk" "more" "please" and "eat". So here we are having a conversation while Easton plays outside yet again:

Today needed to be a "two nap day" for Dalton, and I even tried to get E to take one too. He was a little sleep deprived after our late night last night. He tried, he tried really hard but never fell asleep. So we started our festive cupcakes instead, carrot cake from a box:

I added extra pureed carrots to part of the batch to make some healthier ones to snack on with Dalton too.

When Dalton took his afternoon nap, Easton and I went to work decorating them. I made the cream cheese frosting from scratch and Easton got to lick his very first beater (I never let him have raw egg hence not licking a beater before now, but there's no egg in frosting so it's all good):

We made some green coconut to put on them:

Then placed a festive marshmallow Peep on top of a select few and all of them got a few jellybean "eggs":

The finished product:

Sadly, after covering them all in coconut we discovered Easton does not like coconut. :( Nor Peeps.

He never did get his needed nap so after dinner I told him he was going to take a bath without Dalton tonight (for an early bedtime) and he asked "Because I'm so cranky?" in the same tone he'd ask "What's for dinner?"

That night we took a very big step and got rid of the nighttime diaper for Easton. He'd been doing much better staying dry at night...in fact he'd been dry every night for a week. So we decided to take the plunge and he wore underpants to bed. I'm not sure he's at the point where he'll wake in the night to pee if he has to but if he can stay dry for the 12-12.5 hours he's been sleeping then that's okay too. I'm sure we'll still have accidents in our future, but we're prepared. I'm so proud of him!

What a Day!

I didn't know this was going to turn into such a big day, Easton started off playing outside in his coat and p.j.'s right after breakfast, he's armed with a piece of bread for the birds:

Rearranging things:

Initially I only had one plan for the day...Lauren was going to come up to babysit Dalton while Easton and I went to see the "Horton Hears a Who" movie. So, she got here, and I put Dalton down for a nap before Easton and I left. We had a nice little date, the movie was okay...Easton actually got bored towards the end and I had issues with some of the "language" in the G-rated flick: boob, moron, and idiot. Oh well. We got back and Dalton had actually just woken up. Lauren was giving him a bottle and she put it down but he signed "milk" at her so she gave him more. Yay! He can communicate his needs with caregivers. :)

After the movie Lauren left and the boys and I were just hanging out. Then my phone rang: my childhood best friend had recently had her first child. I was dying to go see them. So, I called my mom to see if I could drop my kids off at her house on the way. I could! We picked her up from school and dropped her and the boys off before I went to see my pal and her little guy. I probably overstayed my welcome but I was loving holding a little one and visiting with an old friend.

When I got back to my mom's to get the kids...Dalton was walking non-stop. They had no idea it was such a new thing, because he was just doing it so well and so much. I think that her having carpeting made it easier for him. At home we have wood and tile through a lot of the downstairs and he's slipping around in his jammies and socks a lot. But with her carpet he was doing great! Not to say he didn't fall, but if he did he'd get right back up rather than reverting back to crawling. We're saying 3/20/08 is the day he became an official walker:

Go, D, Go!

Jason wasn't with us, he was enjoying some unplanned "me time" at home after work so the boys and I ended up ordering dinner with my mom and Lauren and having a picnic on her floor before heading home waaaaay too late.

Wow, what a big day.

Baking Day

Easton and I had big plans to make our bunny cookies today. But, he started being a bit of a yelling stinky head so I had to threaten to withhold that fun treat. He quickly came to his senses, and then played more Diego:

He behaved after that so we were able to make our cookies, not that taking them out of the box was all that hard:

Dalton entertained himself in his chair with a toy as he looked on:

Say, "cookies!"

While they were baking we took some movies. D's about to be an official walker, thanks to his brother's help:

And finally, Easton's been on a "playing outside" kick lately. So here he is later as Buzz, "falling with style":

Play Date Dilemmas

Yesterday was Saint Patrick's Day and while I wore festive socks and dressed the boys in green, I didn't take pictures or do anything Irish. Oh well.

Today we went to play over at Ellis's house. Poor Dalton sooooo wants to play with the big boys, and Easton is used to him, of course, but other kids aren't. I don't know how I'm going to get Dalton any friends. He's the only one in his class. :) Some of Easton's little buddies have siblings, but they're like a year (or more) younger than Dizz. One day it won't matter but now when he's beginning to walk and talk and they just sleep and eat...

Or, say I went out and found some friends with a kid closer to Dalton's age...well, then what would I do with Easton? Must think about this one some more.

Palm Sunday

Oh how we really need to find a church! We've taken a brief hiatus in our church searching but know we need to resume once again. I'm about to go back to that other church we nixed, just to have one.

Instead of church, we spent our Sunday morning lazing around the house. Easton wanted Dalton to ride on his shoulders:

Posed with some Easter decorations:

Notice the extra pair of ears on that bunny.

Then Jason did a long project which involved re-stringing one of the window blinds. What a pain. But a string broke so whatcha gonna do? Easton loved the step ladder being out and had a very good time fixing things as well:

Mr. D enjoyed checking it out too...it was enough to make him walk, I just realized Dalton is wearing different pajamas than earlier. I have NO clue how this all went down but whatev:

Easton jumping over Dalton:

D loved climbing the ladder too:

Practicing walking, or at least a little fast cruising:

Then we took some pictures of them in their Easter shirts....er, we tried to take pictures of them in their Easter shirts:

This was sadly the best one of the two of them together so it got made into my very quick digital card:

Unless you count me cutting out each kid in Photoshop for this one:

Then it was time for dinner:

Dalton couldn't get enough chicken. He loved that recipe. Just another dinner in the S house:

Easton had peanut butter, among other things, and was "decorating" his plate. Jason said, "Why don't you decorate your mouth?" Easton said, "That's a good idea!" and started putting it on his lips rather than inside his mouth. I knew that was gonna happen. :)

Nemo On Ice

Easton woke up this morning suddenly very afraid of dinosaurs. We'd never seen anything quite like it from him. Maybe he'd had a bad dream? Whatever it was, it was something he brought up about every 5 minutes the entire day. "No dinosaurs?" or "Mama, are there dinosaurs?" "Are dinosaurs just pretend?" That's what we told him: they're pretend because any dinosaur he's seen have been pretend. I'm not ready to get into death and extinction and all that with him yet. We're hoping this passes as quickly as it came, the poor guy. He's afraid to be alone, or even sitting at the table with all of us he's concerned about any little noise outside. :(

Otherwise we had a fun day, Gramoo treated us all to "Nemo on Ice"!

She and Lauren love to go ice skating things like that, so I guess they were looking for some kids to bring so they wouldn't look crazy. :)

But it was great fun! Easton really loved it, Dalton got a little fidgety but did okay overall. Thank goodness for intermissions, though:

We bought a $6 bag of popcorn and stretched the little ones' legs a little.

Thank you, Gramoo!

After Nemo we went to lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory downtown, but Denver does a Saint Patrick's Day parade--which had just ended--so the crowds, traffic, and detours were quite a pain. But we got there and Dalton walked around a bit while we waited for a table:
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

There is a trolley train car smack in the middle of the restaurant...there's tables in it! When it was semi-empty Easton and Jason snuck in for a photo op:

Poor Diddles was so tired from not napping as we were at Nemo:
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

And every entree at Spaghetti Factory comes with ice cream...who wouldn't love that?

Actually, Easton (who has been eating GREAT for him lately) didn't eat much at all and puked twice in the evening. Lets just hope it was his icky pasta...not an illness.
