Our Friday

Over the weekend we finally scored a little picnic table for the kids. I was quite happy with both the quality and price so before swimming lessons on Saturday we went to pick it up. The kids were pretty excited about it but we had so darn much rain that the first time we could actually try it out wasn't until this morning:


We enjoyed our breakfast outside...Easton was facing the east there so he had to move over to D's side where it wasn't quite so bright...our backyard has ZERO shade.


Because of all the rain over the weekend, Jason was unable to do his regular weekend lawn mowing, so that plus all the rain means our lawn is currently out of control. We always have "issues" with our lawn be it weeds or dead spots or whatever...well today I noticed we're now growing mushrooms back there. I mentioned the shrooms to Jason in an email and his response was, "Don't let the kids eat them...but if they do, have them paint something". :)

Sometimes husbands say the darndest things too. Especially mine. That dude's a crack up.

After breakfast we got ready to meet Max at one of the really cool parks in the area...the Children's Hospital designed the place and it's called "Sensory Park" and it's also wheelchair friendly and just a neat place. Less typical of some of your other "playgrounds". It's where we were when Dalton started suddenly limping last year (before he got put in his cast). Anyway, we met and spent a few hours there. My kids love to swing and I'm normally happy to oblige, but since Susannah and I were wanting to chat as well we only pushed the kids on the swings for a little while then encouraged them to move on. I didn't feel too bad because they were happy to play with/on other stuff as well. My only knock against the place is that there are zero restroomy facilities...not even a porta potty. And Easton had to go...I really try to discourage "watering" plants and trees because I don't want the boys to get in the habit but E reminded me that when there was no bathrooms when we went sledding (like a year and a half ago!) he had to pee in the street. I guess if it's been that long, clearly he's not "in the habit" and I won't have to worry. We found a very out of the way spot where no one had any idea what we were up to and that was the end of that.

I didn't take a single picture while we were there but we had a fun morning. Easton skinned a knee but Zannah had a band-aid handy to save the day. Later I noticed Dalton's scabbed knee ripped off and was freshly bleeding again but he never complained. It was a good time.

We came home for some lunch and plenty of hydration. The boys like to clink cups and do, "Cheers!"




Dalton doesn't drink much other than his precious milk but I gave him a little lemonade to encourage him to use the harder spout sippy cup and he drank it all...even if he did go about it a silly way:


The boys are in their rooms now. I washed sheets this morning so I was putting them back on E's bed while he just quietly played his on the floor. He's so good for his quiet time that I just had to plant a big ol' kiss on his head seeing him sitting there playing so quietly. Love those boys!

This evening we're off to a carnival at my mom's school. The boys are very excited to see their Gramoo and Lauren again...even though it's only been 5 days. We're lucky they're so close!

Once we picked up E we ran to the grocery store and the boys rode the penny pony. Dalton wouldn't let me hang on to him:

We picked up a new Spiderman puzzle at the Dollar Tree, Easton rocked putting it together but the pieces were rather warped and Jason needed to help hold it together:

Jason and I got to go on a nice long date. First stop was Monty Python's Spamalot starring J. Peterman (John O'Hurley). We enjoyed it but I think were expecting a little more based on my mom and Lauren's rave reviews (they had seen the same cast in Vegas last summer):


After the show we went to dinner at a German restaurant just to change things up. Thanks to my fab mom and sister for being our babysitters. The boys had a blast with them as always and we came home to a beautifully painted driveway and they'd played with water balloons and all kinds of other fun stuff. Leaving the boys with my mom (and Lauren) is a total non-issue. The kids can't wait for us to leave so they can see what Gramoo brought in her bag. Seriously.

That was the day I wore my Mother's Day yellow shirt paired with a long white "prairie skirt".

As soon as Dalton saw me he called me a princess (and did two more times during the day). Easton told me, "That is a beautiful dress. You look so pretty." Awwwwwwwww. I must dress up more often!

Then we went bunk bed browsing and found our Love Nest bedding instead. The boys were fantastic at the store...it helped that they had a little children's area:

This was one of our record high days. It was 90 something which is quite toasty for May in these parts. In the morning after our doughnuts and before it got too butt-burning hot, we went to the cool park to play...this is courtesy of my camera phone:


That afternoon I set up Mount Tiki Soaki in the backyard for the boys:








The boys had fun launching things:




Everything from shoes to leaves, the watering can, garden tools, and this kickball got launched:






We cooled off with some popsicles:




Then the boys discovered that the leaves would stick to their moist skin and they became leaf monsters!!!

Trying out the new carts at Wal-Mart...these are going to be such a life-saver once I have three kids to stick in here:


It was another near-scorching afternoon so this time we headed up to our splash pad again...sans Ben this time:






However, something was "up" because that was seriously as high as the fountains ever got that day. Once we decided to call it a day and headed to get changed we found another little fountain to really cool off in:

That evening we met Jason for dinner at Mimi's Cafe. Easton decided to go as a tourist and wore black socks with his plaid shorts and Crocs. Stylish, no?

Dalton and I had breakfast at IHOP before our last AussieROO class:

That was also E's last day of school and while you've seen some of the pictures from the indoor "picnic" after class you didn't see this group hug:

My stupid camera batteries died seconds before they spontaneously did this so I had to settle for trying to capture the moment on my camera phone. Other parents said they'd send me a copy from their camera. I have yet to see one.

Also, after we came home and did nap and Q.T., we did a craft that we'd snagged from the party. Well, Easton did his and I did Dalton's while he sat and took our pictures:

Easton's last swimming lesson was that morning...first we waited for his class to start:


E practiced the backstroke standing next to the pool for this pose:


He and his teacher of the day wore matching wet suits! Seriously!


The end of the class marked when they got to don life jackets and have fun jumping in. Easton jumped the farthest...he'd overshoot this ladder, even, and have to paddle back to get out to do it again!


Dalton enjoyed some Starbucks with us while we watched. Both the boys love the Chai Frappacinos I get...they do have minimal caffiene so they only get a few sips:


Saturday night was family movie night. Jason spent all day in the kitchen brewing his second batch of beer (a pale ale this time). The boys and I picked up Bolt from the Redbox and some snacks. First we ate pizza in front of the tube and then some cookies and snuggles:

Really only Easton and I watched the whole thing. Jason made some brewing notes and browsed a book while sitting in the living room with us. Dalton wandered around playing. Eventually J gave D a bath and got him ready for bed so that we could all just go up for the boys' bedtime once the movie ended.

I felt a little nesting instincts kicking in so I did some cleaning and organizing. Some of that involved going through the toy box...which the boys quickly filled up--with themselves...

I had the ultrasound in the morning so J and I switched roles and I showered first while he got to snuggle in bed with the boys and got them breakfasted and readied for the day to meet me up at the hospital when I was done.

Oh who even knows what this is about? They're entertaining themselves with me in the kitchen and waiting for J to get home from work:
