Too Much Too Soon?

So, you may remember Dalton was sick on Friday with a tummy bug. We were all (understandably) asked to stay home from a birthday party the following day so knowing that in advance, I headed to a mailbox with a late pick-up so the birthday child would get the card and gift card in the mail in time. It was a drive-through mail box. All was well. Dalton fell asleep in the car on the way home and I was carrying him inside and in his sleep he threw up all over me and him. He had been eating and drinking a bit again during the day so it was quite the mess. And Autumn was still in the car in the garage. I had to leave poor Dalton standing in the middle of the kitchen, covered in yak, go get Autumn...carry her upstairs in her car seat for Easton to hang out with then Dalton and I both stripped in the kitchen. I stuck him in a bath and changed clothes planning to shower once Jason got home in a little bit. I had to leave our clothes and puke in a pile on the kitchen floor. What a nice welcome-home surprise for Jason. :)

He arrived and took over kid-care while I cleaned everything (and myself) up. I was worried Dalton would continue to be sick through the night but he was fine. We took it easy and stayed home Saturday but he stayed just fine. Sunday we even went to church assuming he was no longer contagious. Monday was fine. After 72 full hours of avoiding dairy I thought he'd be okay to re-introduce some in smallish amounts. I think that's what did it...not that he's still sick, but the dairy. I was just afraid he'd lose his taste for milk like Easton has. Anyway...he seemed fine with his two half-sippies of milk all day.

Then came 1 a.m. Autumn was starting to fuss with hunger in her room and I heard something in the boys' room, "Someone's throwing up!" I told Jason and we headed in there after J made a brief stop to plug up Autumn with her pacifier. Everything had to be changed: jammies, aaaaaaaaaaaaall his bedding. Jason gave him a quick bath and I worked on the bed trying to tell Easton, "Go back to sleep." He was wanting to have regular wide-awake conversations with me. We got everyone back in bed and Dalton had another round. Lovely. So, I was wide awake anticipating round 3, waiting for Autumn to wake up to nurse as well... Plus, Easton couldn't go back to sleep either. I had to go in with him a few times. So from 1-3:30 I was awake in the night. But Dalton never did have a round 3. All that awake time in the night will hit me harder tomorrow, I think. Easton too. Right now we're both coping okay.

Anyway, we're back to poor D avoiding dairy for probably closer to a week if I can stand it. That little tummy needs time to heal to handle the milk.

Just a few quick pictures. This is when Dalton had to stay away from his siblings in case he was contagious on Friday. So some E and A love:

He is constantly undoing her jammies so he can rub her soft tummy. It is really soft. I caught Jason absentmindedly rubbing her belly the other day too. :)

Saturday I made monkey bread in my heart Valentiney pan:

He loves green. He picked out that shirt from Target and again I bought it for him. And then he found his green Nemo glasses and decided he needed a hat too (with his green crocodile). Cutie.

When the boys got home from picking E up from school yesterday they headed out to play some t-ball. Gotta love brothers:

And there ya go. Dalton seems better but tired today. I even let him have doughnuts for breakfast and he's doing fine. He's laying around on the couch and didn't really want lunch so I didn't make him. I'm letting him decide what his little body needs. He told me when he woke up this morning, "No milk for me" so he must be on to something. :)

Autumn is waking now and Easton's allowed to use the computer again today after 2 weeks of it being banned for him. So, he's itching to get on here now. Better go!

Don't you love those moments of panic where you are not sure the best approach (puke on you and D). My brain is slower to react but sounds like you are totally on the ball. I am glad it seems that he is better.

Baby skin is just the best. I think it is cute that E wants to rub her belly. And A doesn't seem to mind a bit.

I love seeing how the boys wanted to play ball. Such bonding and friendship.

Poor Diddles! I haaaate puking and just feel terrible for anyone who gets sick like that.

I'm like Eastie in that I gave up milk after a bad puking incident...well, several incidents collectively known as pregnancy. It wasn't that I stopped drinking it for too long and lost the taste, it was that every time I look at a glass of milk I envision exactly how terrible it is on the way back up and just can't make myself drink it. I saw my dad drink a glass of milk the other evening at dinner and I was like, "How can you DO that? Just drink straight milk?" It grosses me out.
