Eye Appointment and Other Updates

Jason made dinner last night...Pierogies (yum!) and then offered to run out to get ice cream for us for dessert. Yay! Although I cleaned up the kitchen while he was gone and Easton made a royal mess with his dinner. He had peanut butter on graham crackers with a side of banana:

As I was doing the dishes I thought he was still munching on his crackers. Till I saw him fling some banana...there was banana on my cell phone on the counter, banana on Dalton's swing, and banana on the floor leading to our laundry room which is pretty impressive if you've been to my house and can picture how that might work. He had also smeared banana allll over the kitchen table and his knees. Grrr.

After our ice cream we put the boys to bed and had some quality couple time. Dalton went just over 5 hours between feedings and was asleep for most of those 5 hours--yay! However, I woke up before he did in sooooo much pain--perhaps a clogged milk duct or ten? I just lay there hoping he'd wake soon so I could go nurse him. It didn't help the pain and I was shivering uncontrollably (fever? or maybe just a cold house?) so I decided to pump and massage, take some ibuprofen, and lay on a heating pad. Ouch. I was literally nauseous from the pain. After 2 hours being up I finally was able to go back to sleep. Whew. It's better this morning, but not gone. I've never had anything like this before. When Dalton woke to nurse again at 5:15 I was already feeling better.

Those boys were sleeping machines last night. I only had to nurse Dalton twice and they both slept late. And in their own rooms again which is really only significant for Dalton. Easton didn't wake up till 8:15 and Dalton not till 8:45 and Easton and I had already left for the doctor by then. Wowsers. Go boys!

So, the doctor...well, they weren't kidding when they said it could be 3 hours. We got there and were seen pretty quickly--I was still filling out our paperwork when they called us back. A med student saw Easton first and did all kinds of eye stuff and took a detailed history. He was soooooo good for everything. They had Nemo on in the room which he watched while I talked with the doctor-in-training. Then, he sat on my lap in the big chair and she checked his vision (he did great--doesn't need glasses), he even let her stick patches over both eyes to check them individually, he wore both sets of glasses to check his color vision and depth perception. Pretty cool. She said "we never get this much cooperation from 2 year olds". Go, E! The doctor came in and said his chart said he was a "very bright child" she looked him over and ordered for them to put in the drops to dialate his eyes. They first put in a numbing drop which apparently stings a bit. He didn't like it, that's for sure. Then they put 3 more drops of crap in each eye and made us leave for half an hour to give them time to work. We came back and waited another half hour before they finally called us back again. I am soooooo glad Jason offered to watch Dalton. There was almost no way today's visit would've gone smoothly if I'd had both boys. Easton did so awesome the whole time though. He was so brave: when they called his name he followed the med student back to the room all on his own...he didn't hold my hand or anything. Big boy. He only cried when they put in the drops and it only lasted as long as the dropping lasted. He was so very patient (more patient than me) while we waited forever to be called back again. Although he did keep saying, "See doctor more". He was ready!

So, when we did "see doctor more" she said yup we should do the surgery on his duct and soon. Apparently the older he gets and the more eye infections he gets all increase the possibility that the simple surgery won't work, or that it'll fail (he'll need it or a fancier procedure later on). The doctor also didn't like the idea of combining this surgery with his potential hernia surgery. She said she's normally all for it but this particular procedure can introduce quite a bit of bacteria into the blood and he should really only deal with this one surgery at that time. Hmmmm...the general surgeon (who would do the hernia) didn't mention anything like that but whatever. So far we don't have anything scheduled, they call me for that but they'd like it to be when she's "next available" which would likely be in a month or two. Eek!

We came home to Mr. Mom feeding Dalton his second bottle of the morning. They did well as I knew they would then Jason hurried off to work. I really really appreciated him staying with D this morning. It just wouldn't have worked well any other way.

I found this on the camera when I came home, guess Mr. Mom took it while we were gone. Cute!

Anyway, while I ran into the kitchen to refill Easton's cup I came back to this:

Awwww...and then he dabbed his chin dry too:

And just for fun, some more pictures from yesterday:

Dalton has horrible sores (but not really diaper rash) on his little bum right now so he's been airing it out a bit:

This afternoon we plan to go to get our groceries and then Jason is bringing home Chick-fil-a tonight. The boys are both still sick...Easton seems to be getting better while Dalton seems slightly worse. Poor baby.

The Bachelor starts again for a new season tonight. Woooooo hooooo! You know what we'll be doing.

And thanks to McLaughlin, AJ, and Kyla for commenting on J's April Fools joke. He was looking for comments yesterday. My mom left a voice mail too...I think she was kinda fooled. Other Kristin knew better. Of course we wouldn't reveal a pregnancy to our parents online. Sillies.

Okay, well hope all is well with my devoted readers this fine Monday. Till the next post...

Awww, Easton has to have two surgeries? Poor guy.

The joy of specialist appointments. Our genetics appointment ran like that. I think we were there 4-5 hours. It was like a lifetime. Katie was a good sport, but there's only so long you can keep a kiddo happy out and about like that.
