So, just before dinner time last night (Jason Eve) the doorbell rang. I was in the midst of making my "famous" pizza pasta per the birthday boy's request. I went to answer the door and it was Gramoo and Auntie Lauren. With pillows in tow.
Surprise!
Well, I wasn't surprised as I had arranged for this. But I got to surprise Jason with the fact that the very next day we'd be going skiing together and we had to go rent our equipment. Which was why Gramoo and Lauren were there for dinner.
The spent the night so we could leave early. It was also the day of the time change so it felt very very early. Actually I didn't think it was that bad but I was bummed I missed my kids sleeping in till 8 (E) and 9 (D) on the clock as we had left around 7.
We grabbed some breakfast at McDonald's on the way and took to the fairly open road.
On the way up to Loveland Ski Area I sneezed. And the lens in my glasses popped out:
I should've recognized it as the sign it was. :)
I think Jason had a nice time, but I had quite a day:
Our very first run of the day we went to get on the lift. Except Jason and I had a communication lapse and he took off on the lift a chair ahead of me. I couldn't get ready in time! So I rode up solo:
We reunited at the top:
Boy was I rusty on those things. I hadn't been skiing since I was dating my ex-husband back in January of 1999. That's a LONG time ago. I live in Colorado for crying out loud but skiing is an expensive hobby. And I've been either pregnant or nursing during most winters Jason and I have been together. This time I had a breastpump in the car!
The next run we were able to ride the chairlift together:
Ahhh, isn't the scenery beautiful:
We made a pit stop at some point would you believe that I dropped my friggen' glove in the half-flushed toilet!?!?! Talk about putting a damper on things. Sheesh. I had no choice but to wear the pee glove. I attempted to dry it in the hand dryer but all 3 were out of order. So then I had to have Jason take it to the mens room to dry it somewhat. It was icky and moist but I wore it. Gag.
So, perhaps distracted by the eau du toilette on my fingers, but I didn't do a great job "keeping my ski tips up" when we boarded the lift the next time. And wouldn't you know it...one of my skis came off! As I was being swept up the mountain on the lift!
They loaded my lone ski on with a woman about 3 chairs behind us but the whole way up I fretted about how I was going to get off on just one ski. I'm not that good on two skis...let alone just the one. So, it came time and we noticed they weren't slowing the lift for me or anything so I just had to try. I coasted enough on one ski to get out of the way but then, it was impossible to stop. So I had to fall. And a woman that worked there made sure I was okay and then yelled at the lift guy for not slowing it for me, "That was the girl with one ski!" she said. They were expecting me. Perhaps his brain was frozen. Or fried. My ski arrived and we went down.
I wiped out twice that day. And we only skiied for 4 hours. How sad. I used to never fall. I would ski in jeans because I didn't ever fall. But oh how glad I was to have ski pants on that day.
Jason stayed on his skis the whole time. He's not even from Colorado. But he had been skiing a lot more recently than I had. Well, like 3 years vs. 10. :)
After our morning spent on the slopes we headed back towards home, stopping for Beau Jo's pizza for lunch on the way.
My, he's really showing his age:
Ha! Hee hee hee. 3 and a 5...he's 35...he's showing his age. *snort*
We came home to Easton and Gramoo doing Diego Easter eggs and Dalton sleeping in his crib. They had gone to breakfast and played at McDonald's followed by some time at Chuck E. Cheese. I think they had a great day. They're the best babysitters ever!

I love your birthday "eve" stories! And what a great surprise, poor David, I never surprise him!
It was an exciting day to say the least. I love that pic of you with only one lens...too funny.
You are so great for surprising Jason with such a great gift and for cooking all his favorite foods for the week...must keep this a secret from Matt!
I still find the pee glove hilarious. :)
