We had a lovely pancake and "gourmet" hash brown breakfast this morning. All week I've been cooking Jason's requested favorites as part of his "birthday week". So, even though today was the day before his birthday, I made a special breakfast. But I had something secret up my sleeve for the next day.
We cleaned up around the house and then left to run a few errands. One of which was lunch at Atlanta Bread Company.
We had a lovely lunch and Easton and I went back up to the counter to buy a cookie. On the way we passed a baby being fed some jarred baby food and she had a juice box on her tray. With a straw. Intrigued I asked the mom, "Does she really drink from a straw?" and she said that she did. And then I asked how old she was and she told me she was only 8 months! I was like, "My one year old can't do that."
Easton and I went on our way.
When I got back to the table Jason said, "Hey! Watch this!" and gave Dalton the straw in his water. And Dalton drank! From a straw! After I just told some stranger that he couldn't.
What a coincidence, eh!?!?
And now D can drink from straws. Yay!
After that we left the restaurant to go pick up Jason's birthday cookie cake from the mall. Easton had his MagnaDoodle and he was telling us how he drew a map of "where we belong" and we had to "be careful going across Snake River" and there was a street and all sorts of other seemingly smart things on our way to Daddy's birthday (I think he got this from Dora...but still). You can bet Map Guy Daddy was beaming over his little cartographer in the backseat. Anyway, because Easton was being so very amusing I whipped out the camera and attempted to engage him in the same conversation so that I could record it forever but was stymied when he was all, "I already told you."
D'oh!
