The Heat is On

Seriously.

I turned on the heat today...had to switch it back over from the A/C. But dudes, it was chilly in here! Yesterday we'd only had a high of 53 and all the residual summer heat leaked out of the house overnight so that this morning it was cold enough to warrant turning on the heat. In June. Sad.

In other news, our playgroup yesterday was soooooooooooo great. I have zero pictures from the occasion because from the second we got there my boys went upstairs to play and I hardly saw them until it was time to go. I sat there and chatted with the other moms and just had a grand ol' time. Even when all the other kids came downstairs for hot chocolate and strawberry shortcake, mine stayed up to play. Everyone was so surprised as in, "I know your kids must not eat much from the size of them, but they don't want dessert???" The thing is, the boys love strawberry shortcake and E even likes hot chocolate but they were more interested in playing with the new-to-them toys, I guess.

There were 3 1st graders, 4 preschoolers from Mrs. M's class, and 4 2-ish year olds (one of them is not quite 2) yet they all played so amazingly well together. Seriously, we could just sit down there and chat because we didn't have to go breaking up issues over not sharing or tell them to be nice to the littler ones or anything. At one point one mom did go up and just about all the kids were playing "rock band" and were dancing with instruments and stuff performing, "Who Let the Dogs Out?" Wish I had seen that!

Later the bigger boys (the soon-to-be 2nd graders) went outside...and just Dalton joined them.

Jacob's family just got a new puppy...an exuberant black lab and the dog tackled Dalton a few times while outside but the 7 year olds would rescue him. However, because it had been raining so much D ended up soaked from being knocked to the ground so much and so when he came back inside to play again I had to strip him. He spent the rest of the playgroup in his diaper...and Sam didn't want to be left out of the nakey fun so he stripped down too. It's really quite cute.

When it was time to go the puppy was inside and was chasing after Easton and nipping at his clothes which Easton found absolutely hysterical and it got him allllll riled up. But the dog would still "attack" Dalton and I had to rescue him from the floor all upset...it was sad when I went to reach for him he thought I was the dog again and it was just so heartbreaking to see his terrified reaction, eyes closed and screaming, "Nooooo! NOOOOO!" :(

But we made it out of there relatively unscathed, I think Dalton will recover from any potential doggie fears he may have developed yesterday. We were there so long that Jason actually beat us home and so when Dalton saw him he told him, "the doggie was eating me." Hee hee.

One of the highlights of our afternoon was when Tabor's mom let me know about a swimming class for 2 year olds where the parent doesn't have to get in (w00t!) and also simultaneous gymnastics classes for both our 4 year olds and a parent/tot one for our two year olds. We're signed up for those simultaneous gymnastics classes and I'm trying to figure out Easton's appropriate placement for swim class at this other rec center before we sign up for that too.

Today we've stuck around the house this morning...after some time playing the boys joined me in making another round of sock puppets. We each got to do one...Dalton made this very basic guy from a colorful sock:

The best part of his puppet are the kissy lips.

Easton did this one:

He wanted me to help him come up with a name but wasn't liking any of my suggestions until I said "Diana". He said, "I think Diana is a nice name" so Diana she is.

I made this dragon/silly monster thing with horns and 3 eyes:

Our puppets from November are now joined by our new three:

E and I did a little puppet show for Dalton to distract him from rifling through our junk drawer:

Then we had lunch and now quiet time...E's got the puppets in there with him but I think he's playing Little People farm instead.

Off to the library this afternoon! In our long sleeves and pants. Bah!

Get this, we almost made sock puppets yesterday! I just didn't have all the supplies we needed. I just stuck my hand in a regular old sock and Drew thought it was hysterical. Maybe we'll do actual puppets soon.

I'm glad your playdate was such a success. We've definitely had our fair share of bad playdates, so when perfect ones like that come along, I REALLY appreciate them.
