Kids Say the Darndest Things

It's been awhile since I have done one of these. Probably none of these are even funny any more but we'll give it a go nonetheless. I jotted down a few notes to help me remember and I'm really hoping I remember the whole story to go with each one...for some reason my memory is not quite up to par lately. Normally I'm like the elephant who never forgets but these days I'm feeling like the rest of you. :)

Anyway...

Our neighborhood is called "Fox Run" (I'll probably regret telling the blogosphere that) but anyway, Easton was asking if that was because foxes used to live here and I was like, "Yeah, it's not called 'Elephant Run'" and he goes, "Mom, that's because elephants walk slow."

Dalton saw his Sunday school teacher in the church hallway and said, "Hey! That's my church!" in regards to the person.

Easton recently did a two and a half week trial of tae kwan do. He's decided against continuing and I can't help but wonder if part of the reason was that he couldn't understand the teacher. It was so hard to stifle my giggles when I heard my sweet boy doing his best to repeat after the Korean instructor at his first class. He had no clue what the instructor was trying to say so E just repeated after the sounds his Korean master was making "Imer weena suh" (I'm a winner, sir!"). There was more but I had to stop paying attention or I wouldn't be able to play off that I was laughing at Dalton instead for much longer!

Before Easton sang at church recently I told him to go get a fresh bandaid and I'd put it on his shopping cart mangled hand and he said, "Yeah, because no one wants to see my hurty finger in Jesus' house".

Dalton frequently refers to Autumn as, "My cutie". "Is my cutie going to take a bath?" "I want to hold my cutie". Adorable! Sometimes Easton will even say "Your cutie" when talking about Autumn to Dalton.

When thinking about the upcoming Christmas plans one morning Easton said, "Hey, I know what we can do to make sure Jesus has a good birthday: let's say a prayer!" I love that he knows our prayers make Jesus happy.

Dalton was feeling a little feisty one day and hopped down from the table without asking first. I reminded him, "Dalton, you need to say, 'may I please be excused?'" and he said, "I want to be mean right now!!!"

Easton was planning ahead for next Halloween and let us know that he'd be able to see the best in the dark for trick or treating because "I'm nocturnal" and Dalton goes, "I'm a dark turtle too".

While playing with Janna's childhood toys on our weekend getaway, Easton got frustrated and didn't want to play with Dalton anymore...and he let us all know that. Little Dalton sweetly protested, "But I'm your brother!" and melted all the rest of our hearts.

Easton was recently praised for volunteering the truth about something. He was later recounting the truth-telling story to Jason and followed it with, "That's the Jesus way!"

We were about to go pick up Easton from school and I asked Dalton to put his socks back on...he told me, "Noooooo, I just want my stinky toes!"

We just bought this year's gingerbread house and Easton insisted we assemble it right then. I told him, "I know want to but we're going to wait till this weekend?" "Today?" "No, this weekend." "Tomorrow?" "Nooo, this. weekend." at which point he burst into frustrated tears asking, "But what does 'weekend' mean?" Poor guy...I thought he knew!

In that same vein, he was rifling through a kitchen drawer the other day holding up crap and asking me what it was. Getting annoyed I was all, "Dude, can you please stop digging through the drawer!?!?" and he goes, "But I just want to learn things!" Awwww. Needless to say, I let him continue and happily (and guiltily) explained what each gadget was for. My curious little guy with a big mean mama.

On the way to dinner tonight Easton asked me what I want to be when I grow up. I told him that right now I loved being a mom and taking care of my babies. He let me know that I could do something else too so I said, "How 'bout one day I be a nurse?" and he said, "Yeah! You could give me all the things I'll need" because he is currently planning to be a "astronaut doctor" which he also calls "flight surgeon". I asked Dalton what he wants to be and he said, "A Chuck E. Cheese astronaut". Easton thinks Autumn should be a chef. Or maybe an "astronaut chef" and told Jason "flight chef".

On the way home from dinner Dalton was telling us about how "Holten slipped" but it sounds like "Holten swipped" and a shocked Easton goes, "Holten was whipped?!?!"

At bedtime tonight I noticed a bunch of new eczema spots on little Diddles (this weather!!!). I said, "Awww, poor Dalton's eczema" and in his best give-me-sympathy voice D goes, "Yeah, I fall down the stairs" so I was all, "Oh, you fell down the stairs and got this eczema?" and he pouted, "Yeah." Goob. However, Easton understands it much better...perhaps better than his dad. ;) On the way into school this morning (Jason took E) Mrs. M asked Jason, "Do you know why his cheeks are red?" Caught a bit off guard, Jason mumbled, "Uhhhh, it's cold?" and Mrs. M started prattling on about Fifth's Disease and how it's so common among preschoolers and blah blah blah when Easton piped in with, "It's eczema". They both realized he was right. :)

Did I mention this in the last round when Easton asked me if "blah blah blah" means "you're busy"? I feel like he did but saying "blah blah blah" in that Mrs. M story reminded me.

Okay, that's it for this round. Lucky readers with a rare weekend edition from me! :) Enjoy!!!
