Soccer Saturday

Bright and early once again we showed up at the soccer field. Had to wake up both the boys which no one ever likes to do. But they were in great spirits and we headed over to the game.

Still no jerseys but they had some "slightly imperfect" matching t-shirts for the kids. Easton's is a size 6-8. The kids are all 3-4, what the heck?

Both the game and practice were pretty frustrating. We have the coach and then her friend is sort of the assistant coach. She doesn't have a kid on the team but she does have an older daughter who is a soccer player too. She's maybe 8 years old or so and she was so bossy with the kids on Saturday. If they weren't standing where they were supposed to be she would literally pick them up and move them!

Once game time rolled around the coach of the other team had Jason and I so annoyed. It's a bunch of 3 year olds, right? I'm all for them learning the basics at an age appropriate level and all, but dude, mostly I just want them to have fun. There is no ref for the games apparently so the coaches of the teams kind of referee together. Our coach is so passive that she just went along with what other coach decided to do and he was sooooo by the book. In the half hour they were supposed to play there was probably less than 10 minutes of action TOTAL. If a kid accidentally touched the ball but then remembered the "no hands" rule and took their hand away to keep kicking the dude would call a foul...they'd have to throw it in from out of bounds. But then the throwing part confuses them because why is it okay to use your hands sometimes but not other times? It was so so frustrating. Our team has 3 kids out at a time, and then switches all three at once. Their team was subbing kids each time play stopped and it took forever. Easton was literally so bored out there that at one point he had his shirt hiked up and was playing with his nipples! I'm seriously fine with them playing somewhat by the rules, as long as it is consistent from week to week...and last week we saw a lot more playing time and a lot more fun.

Oh well.

At the end of the game we all made the "tunnel of victory" for the kids to run through again. Being that Easton ran through twice last week you can assume this is probably his favorite part of playing soccer. So he was all excited to run through again and started his first trip before all the parents were lined up. But, bossy 8 year old held him back to the point that he got sad and clung to my leg instead of ever running through. Poor guy. All day long he kept asking to go back to soccer to run through the tunnel.

We didn't want to be the types of parents to get frustrated at a three year old's soccer game, but we did. At least we knew to laugh at ourselves later. Heck, I'm still frustrated that we don't have jerseys.

We came home and I made a big pancake breakfast for us. Jason mowed the lawn and we inflated our whale pool for some fun for later...

Ah that stinks. That's my fear, that when Owen starts it will be that way too. Let the kids play for goodness sake. Hopefully E can have some fun next time.

I totally agree with you on the soccer rules and having fun playing the game. But that is very frustrating like you said, they are 3 yo.

But I thought it was very funny E playing with his nipples.

What are they thinking, making hard rules like that for THREE YEAR OLDS?! I understand some rules, but if it's to the point that the kids aren't enjoying it then they need to chill out a bit.

At least Easton had a good time with his nipples. That made me and Matt laugh out loud. :)
