Father's Day Redo

Last week wasn't exactly the Father's Day I had planned and hoped for for J. It was an amazing day, thanks to our overnight getaway the night before, but I didn't feel like we got to focus on Jason all that much. I don't need Hallmark telling me when to make him feel special as a Daddy so I planned to do some more stuff yesterday.

The breakfast-in-bed plans were nixed with the camp-out, but I still planned a breakfast full of some of J's favorites and we ate it at the table instead. It's cleaner that way anyway:

It was Belgian waffles, my special breakfast potatoes, and smoothies. Mmmm. I don't think Dalton ate a thing. He didn't have a good eating day.

Anyway, after breakfast and some playing I even whipped out a gift for Jason. It hadn't arrived for last week so it was perfect! Then we got ready for our family portraits. In years past we've done it on actual Father's Day. When it came up that Dalton would be in a cast Jason had me reschedule...I thought the cast was bothering him but he later confessed it would interfere with his surprise getaway plans. Sneaky sneaky. While Daddy showered and dressed, the boys and I played in the tent:

Although they're smiley in those pictures, both boys were a little sleep deprived from the late bedtime/early rising. We were somewhat worried how our session would go. Dalton never did get real smiley for us and was a little clingy. How unlike him! But Easton did fantastic. He forced a smile every time--he's got the "no top lip" thing going on in a lot of them but oh well. He was trying. The best part was Easton was "assigned" to help the photographer while he took pics of just me and J. Easton stood next to him and did silly dances to get us to smile. And it worked!

Jason decided that he was going to reward him with a new toy. Mostly I think Jason just wanted a chance to spoil his boys...we don't do it often and the times it's happened recently it has been me with them. I think Jason wanted a turn to see their excitement too. That is why Easton got his new Batman. And Dalton picked a baseball toy:

Hee hee...we've got another "bat man" now. :)

As is often the case, he was enthralled by the packaging as well:

While Bubba took a turn:

The boys went up for D's nap and E's quiet time (which he did in his tent!) and then we went out to the whale pool! Easton tried out his new wetsuit:

The water had warmed up nicely, it was nice and hot, no one got too chilly or asked to dry off every 2 minutes. More photos of the fun:

Easton decided I was looking a little too hot--and dry:

And Dalton was wanting this, it's not Easton being mean:

Even though it looks like it was...

D kept coming back for more!

I have a few videos from it all too:

Eventually we came inside and got them dressed again. I had planned a fun restaurant outing for dinner for our "Father's Day" but when we ended up going out with our friends the night before we scrapped going out again on Sunday night and grilled the food we'd planned on for Saturday instead. It was delicious but it also meant J had to help cook. Oh well. He's the one that made the final call. And it was "his" day...so it was fine with me.

I guess.

E looks totally cool in that wet suit!

I think KayTar and Eastie would be so fun to watch on a swimming playdate. She's totally brave in regards to water and LOVES to jump in from the sides all on her own. As an added bonus, it is strengthening her leg muscles...but don't tell her that. LOL!

You are so sweet to give J a redo day. Josh barely gets ONE day because we have to split it with both our dads who are in close proximity.

I can't wait to see the family pictures. Did the wetsuit work well for Easton? I know you said the water was warm.

Micah loves having water poured over his head. He will even say "Ready, Set, Go!"

So glad you were finally able to bring out the whale pool. Such fun! I especially loved when Batman made his appearance.

Wren wants a whale pool now after watching this video. Sounds like a good idea to me. We have loads of reading to catch up on-

PS) The t-shirt you gave Wren last year is STILL his favorite- he'll say "Wear Earth shirt" almost everyday.
