We did it! We did it! We did it! Yay!
If you have kids you can probably sing that along with Dora. But anyway...today was art class and Easton did it! We did lots of things since I last blogged so we'll have to start there and work up to today. Stay tuned... :)
Let's see...yesterday morning we did breakfast--muffins--Easton helped me make them, of course. Then we played while they cooked:
Right after breakfast we made our Wal-Mart run. Easton has been extra keen on helping me lately. He always likes to help a little but right now it's big. In fact, that's how I kept him on his best behavior at the store: if he wasn't good, he couldn't help. :) But he was great and so he got to help me unload the groceries when we got home:
Little Diddles played in the living room...
...and watched The Wiggles:
Then the boys went in their rooms after their quesadilla and nectarine lunch. Instead of watching TV in my room, however, Easton got to come help me once again and we cleaned my car. Mostly he just climbed allllll around and hung on the doors and such. We cleaned out all the junk and wiped and Windexed but the vaccuum wasn't working so we couldn't do that part. Oh well.
Once Dalton was up we went to find Dalton a shirt for our family portraits this weekend. He needed something to match the rest of us. On the way there Dalton kicked Easton square on the mouth...with Dalton rear-facing and their seats right next to each other Dalton kept getting his foot all in poor Easton's face. Easton has been a good sport about it up until the hard kick. So, even though we (I) had wanted to wait until D was 18 months to turn him forward facing, apparently it is more important to me to continue to have the seats right next to each other so we can still take another passenger in the back when we need to. Jason's been ready to turn him around so I called him and filled him in that he could move the seat after dinner.
But first, Easton and I had to make dinner. Can you tell from his eyes that onions were involved?
It was his first real onion vapor experience and he didn't quite know what was happening. I thought it was rather amusing. I'm so mean.
A little fresh cracked pepper...
After dinner Jason switched the seats around. We decided to go for a spin around the block to "celebrate". We did it when we turned E's seat around when he was 18 months too!
Dalton is now in the middle and Easton is outboard. Everybody clap!
Dalton seems to like it:
And Easton is happy to be by the window he said. Just look how awestruck they are watching the window roll down:
Although E can't see out the front windshield anymore which is a bit of a bummer because he liked to help with street lights and signs and such.
We came up for bedtime and I took one last official cast picture. Well, really I was taking it of one of his special socks. I puff painted some D's onto the bottom of a sock for him so it would be a personalized non-skid sock:
I didn't really want to buy a non-skid sock to fit so we just used an old one of J's for the puff painting. We had some hospital issued non-skid socks in our rotation too. Dalton had his very last sponge bath and then the boys went to bed.
This morning after breakfast I sent the boys out to play in the sandbox (Easton was asking to anyway) so that I could sweep and mop the kitchen:
Dalton kept getting out and walking around the yard or coming to the window to check on me:
Everytime he'd get back in the sandbox he would climb in on top of Easton. Easton was always sooooo sweet about it. I think a lot of kids would shove their brothers off or something (right?) but E would just scooch over. One time Dalton snatched E's shovel right out of his hand and Easton just calmly said, "Take turns, Dalton." And later when Dalton threw the shovel out of the sandbox, Easton said, "Oh! I'd better go get it" and did.
My sandy boys got undressed outside and came in for their real clothes. We waited for Gramoo to show up and then we headed to class:
Easton is showing off his new monkey socks. The boy has a monkey obsession.
When we got to the building where the classes are Easton started to get a little apprehensive. He didn't want to play on Squiggles and was kind of doing his "pre-cry" breathing and pouting. He said he wanted to have some lunch. To go home and have lunch. But we talked about it and I told him he didn't have to be sad yet because I was still right there with him. We went inside and he kept pouting and sniffling a bit but we just kept talking and taking deep breaths. Wee Laddie showed up and they went into class together. Wee Laddie said, "Easton, um, could you not cry today?" Hee hee! Easton continued to say he didn't want me to leave but he was doing a good job not completely falling apart. I got him set coloring next to Wee Laddie and then told him I was going to go stand by the door to watch. He'd turn to make sure I was still there but he held it together okay. The teachers handed them a shaving cream in a bag activity which he seemed really interested in. They had dye in the bag too so the kids would squish the bags up to mix the colors. Easton's turned orange. Later they moved to sit in a circle and Easton kept doing that just fine. They started singing a song greeting each kid by name and after his greeting I went and whispered that I was going to go wait outside the door now and I'd come back and get him soon. He was fine! I could peek through the crack in the door and see that he was not only not crying...he was participating! And smiling! I was thrilled! At one point I even went down to check on Gramoo and Dalton in their Kindermusik class. They were doing great too. I saw my mom pushing D around in a laundry basket while the teacher played a guitar.
I came back and chatted with Wee Laddie's grandma, occasionally popping up to watch my biggest boy enjoying his class. He and Wee Laddie stuck fairly close together which was cute to see them being little buddies.
At noon the teacher opened the door and said our caterpillars were ready for us. And all the little kids were laying on the floor like little caterpillars indeed. And E showed me the caterpillar project he made:
The other children all had lots more tissue paper circles glued on their papers but whatever. I'm just happy he did anything.
We went to watch the last few minutes of Dalton and Gramoo's class and then Easton got to eat his Kit Kat treat I'd bribed him with :)
We drove back to the house and then Gramoo and Easton had plans to go to lunch, just the two of them. So I put D down for his nap and E and Gramoo went to Sweet Tomatoes:
Isn't that cute?
She's going to hang with E some more while I take Dalton to get his cast off and x-rays. My prediction (for the record) is that his leg was never broken to begin with. We shall see soon...

I am glad to hear that art class went so well. And it was funny you talking about the sand box. Because my boy's are the ones that would be pushing and shoving. I didn't teach them this and I try and stop it. Boys!!!
Ranen doesn't usually stay with me as I read your blog but today he walked by and said "That's Easton" and I said, who is that and he said Dalton. We have only discussed this once before. So cute.
Yay Eastie!! I'm so proud of you!
I'm so interested to hear what the x-rays show!
Count me in among the curious about the leg/cast issue. I'm just so happy for you guys that D tolerated it all so well--awesome kid!
I'm quite jealous of your sandbox too. Daddy vetoed the sandbox idea so we had to settle for a water table...we'll just have to watch your boys play instead ;)
WAy to go Easton!
YEAH!!! We start Kate on swim lessons next week.
Gulp. We will see how that goes.
I am sure D is happy to get that cast off!
Love, Cori
