So most of you knew already, but Jason and I went to Vegas without the kids this week.
And if you didn't already know, certainly you noticed the generalized blog updates, with nothing of what was actually up with the boys (or us) the last few days.
So, yeah, we went to Vegas...we left the house at 4:15 AM Tuesday the 22nd and got back home just after 11 PM last night (Friday the 25th...my birthday). I'll fill you in on allllllll that soon, but first, we still have to go back to the stuff that happened before we left.
I'd wanted to do a final blog post but Dalton tricked me into thinking he had an ear infection (fiddling with his ears while saying "Ow" and being cranky). So, we spent Monday's quiet time at the doctor only to discover, "No, you stupid 'experienced' mom of two, it's only teething." But, at least we got that cleared up before I left him for 4 days.
Had I posted that day it would've been along these lines...with Sunday morning being the start of my "birthday week" with our fancy golf resort brunch, we continued the festivites later in the day by going out for my free Baskin Robbins birthday scoop. Easton wanted black ice cream in honor of Batman. I told him they probably didn't have black but we could find the darkest brown they had: chocolate fudge:
I know he thinks he's Batman, but he looks more like The Joker to me...
Actually, he's quite the tidy eater...he goes through a billon napkins. I had to hide them to keep him from wiping his mouth just so I could get that picture. We love that he's usually quite clean, but hope it doesn't lead to any OCD issues later in life. Dalton's even picking up on the napkin habit too:
But he only does it to mimic us, not to keep so tidy...he's happy with ice cream cone all over himself:
In fact, you can't see it but he even smashed a strawberry in his shirt pocket at brunch that morning.
After our ice cream we weren't ready to go back home, we wanted to do something fun...but it was sooooo sweltering outside (for Colorado, anyway) at nearly 100 degrees. Jason and I weren't looking to sit in the heat so we opted for the free indoor playground at one of the nearby rec centers. Jason hadn't been there before and had fun climbing through with the boys. I was still in my dress so I had to watch. I don't think I have any pics of Easton from there but I did turn my Diddles loose in there a few times:
(See the strawberry stain there?)
Jason took turns going through the obstacles and sliding down with both boys. And climbing with D:
We dressed the boys in their matching Batman jammies that night, they were so cute as they listened to Daddy's made-up bedtime story:
And then Eastie said goodnight to "his baby":
Change the sheets and the p.j.'s and that looks an awful lot like our Christmas cards, eh?
The next day was my last day with the boys before our trip, so of course I wanted to have special time with them but I also had lots to get done, and then that pesky doctor's appointment popped up too. But we started our Monday as usual...en route to Krispy Kreme. Monday is also trash day in our 'hood and therefore a good time to spot Crazy Vietnamese Lady looting through other people's trash...
Then we made it to the doughnut store. We ate inside again. I let the boys stay in their jammies, and Easton even wore his mask.
I got there and ordered our usual...and then the lady said, "Do you guys want some samples?" and gave all 3 of us a doughnut of our own on top of what I'd ordered. I was happy to bring leftover doughnuts home...J and I would have a snack for our early morning the next day!
After doughnuts we stopped by the library, still in their jammies and came back home. I made a short grocery list and had the boys change, but Easton donned his mask again for our quick trip to Wal-Mart.
We rushed D home for a very short nap before I had to wake him for his appointment. His weight was up slightly to 21 pounds, 9.5 ounces. Not sure what percentile that is, and we saw our old doctor (who we don't really like) but she was nice to everyone. Becoming a mother herself now has probably changed her for the better as a doctor. What do I mean "probably"?! Of course it has!
Anyway, the boys, especially Easton, were very good for our whole trip to Boulder and back, they kept busy in the car:
And then I was trying to savor every moment breastfeeding Dalton that day, knowing I was leaving on my trip the next morning I wasn't sure if we'd be weaning or not (the answer is not, but we're cutting way back). Anyway, I made sure to get some more breastfeeding pictures. I've shared some on the blog before, and I know they can be borderline and make some people uncomfortable, but I'm posting one anyway...I think it's sweet and I love how my little guy is looking up at me:
Gramoo arrived that evening and came to swimming lessons with us since she'd be taking the boys later in the week while we were gone:
Dalton did a great job with his back floats...(many babies hate back floats)
And he did good with his kicking too...he won't kick much if he's on his tummy, just on his back:
Then we came home and said our goodnights and our goodbyes to our little guys. Easton stalled at bedtime like we knew he would. He was sad about our leaving, for sure. You see how art class goes... Well, he wasn't that bad because he knew he'd have his Gramoo and Lauren.
Eventually he went to sleep, we finished getting everything ready, giving my mom some basic instructions and then waiting for Lauren to arrive. We let my mom and Lauren have our bed because we had to leave for the airport at 4:15. We crashed on the couches instead. When our alarm went off at 4 a.m. it woke up both our boys (and my mom too, I'm sure). Which was actually nice in a way, because I was able to nurse Dalton one last time and put him back to sleep, and Jason was able to give Easton some last snuggles in which he said, "I don't want you to leave, Daddy" but went back to sleep after Jason took him potty.
Taking our box of leftover Krispy Kremes with us, we hit the road!

I love, love, love those bedtime pictures!
Sounds like you had a great last day together before your trip...minus the whole doctor appointment thing.
Glad to see your crazy neighbor make another blog appearance. That woman cracks me up!
I am glad that Dalton didn't have an ear infection but it sounds like you sure had a busy day.
I forgot about your crazy neighbor. Too funny!
