What a strange 24 hours it has been regarding sleeping around here. So, Dalton never did take a nap yesterday. Never slept a wink from when he woke up at 7 something to when he went to bed at 7:45 last night. And he was still up at a normal 7:15 or so this morning. Crazy! Yet, I promise you, you would never know he was "sleep deprived". Dalton has always been rather agreeable even when he should be hungry or tired. Yesterday was no exception.
The weirdest part of all of this is that yesterday Easton took a nap instead! I woke him up at about 3:15 and tucked the boys into my bed together for their beverages and a TV show. This picture is from the other day when Dalton didn't nap other than 10 minutes in the car:
Normally Easton is the only one to get a TV show while Dalton is still asleep.
Anyway, on days when Easton has napped he usually has a hard time falling asleep at night and then because he goes to bed too late he wakes up even earlier. But not last night. He was quiet after we tucked him in and slept late (for him) this morning until about 7:45. Maybe he's in a growth spurt? Isaac's mom thought he had grown when we saw them yesterday. Hmmmmm.
It is looking like Dalton won't nap again today. I am absolutely not ready for him to give up napping. What the heck? He's only 19 months old! We still know of kids Easton's age that nap darn near daily.
There is one more noteworthy "sleep" topic and then I promise I'll move on. I've recently been praying for a little more self-control and motivation to get up before my children do in the mornings so I can do a few things before my attentions shift to them. I was doing it quite a bit (waking early) in the summer but lately with it still being dark I'm somehow extra tired and less motivated. So like I said, I was praying about that and yesterday the neighbor dogs woke me up at 6:30. So I got up. This morning Blitz quietly meowed one time (from downstairs) and I heard him and said to myself, "I know it is 6:30 and this is my wake-up call from God." Sure enough...the clock said 6:31! Then my devotional this morning said something about "don't hide His blessings when they come" and while my animal friend alarm clocks might not be seen as a blessing to everyone, they're an answer to prayer for me. So I thought I'd share.
Dalton! Go to sleep up there!!! Okay...moving on like I said I would...
We made muffins this morning and both boys helped again. They're so great about taking turns. Even Dalton (in this case anyway). After the muffins were baking, Easton decided he wanted to show off our corn from yesterday and invited Dalton to do the same:
After breakfast we went to Wal-Mart. Since our harvesting yesterday Easton has been talking about how we have to make potato soup. And since it has to cook all day in the Crock Pot we had to scoot over to the store for the rest of the ingredients. Here are our tates from yesterday at the farm:
Only those 4 non-shriveled, non-spotted ones survived to meet their destiny in our dinner. But those 4 potatoes still gave us more than the 8 cups of potatoes we need for Sheree's Famous Potato Bacon Soup.
And we got to use one of our 4 gigantic onions for the soup too:
Easton was extremely excited to help and insists that he will eat some for dinner tonight. I'm not the type to ever force our children to eat (or at least swallow) any kind of food, but he'll be encouraged to try it like he says he will. He keeps saying, "I love potato soup!" It's a really good soup, so it's possible. Especially if we keep the bacon out of his and load it up with shredded cheese.
Here's my little helper, I got everything chopped and opened and then he joined me for the assembly:
Dalton watched Elmo in the living room. And snuck in for some crackers.
Just like his big brother at this age, Dalton subsists mainly on crackers and milk. And apparently not much of that is actually used his body (darn processed foods!) because he poops out a disproportionate amount of materials. Oh well. I'm assuming he'll move past it eventually like Easton (sort of) has.
They both ate cheese and crakers for lunch. And now they're in their rooms. Later today we'll be doing a couple of art projects as well as heading to KMart where they are doing DOUBLE COUPONS again. When I heard about this I harassed my mom and Lauren with several phone calls to find out their favorite products. I went through my stash of coupons looking for their faves and rushed to the post office to mail out some for them to use to stock up on stuff at their KMart today too.
I'm about to outgrow my brand new coupon organizer. I've hardly been at this for a month! I'm trying to think of which method I need to move to next. It's very complicated. :)
Hey...don't want to jinx it, but Dalton has been quiet for a little while. Hmmmmmm.

My comment just got eaten! ARG!
That potato soup sounds yummy right now!
And a barnyard wake up call is a pretty cool answer to prayer, I think.
Sleep Dalton, sleep!
I had to laugh about Easton and the potato soup because the bacon is the only part of it that Adam will eat. :) I hope Eastie enjoys it though. It's definitely one of my favorites.
That's great that you've been having some time to yourself in the morning. I can't tell you how many times I've thought about doing that, but sleep always wins out. I just settle for "my time" after everyone goes to sleep at night. :)
mmmm. Hope the potato soup turns out well for you ;)
Hope D decides that naps are actually kinda awesome and he starts taking them again!
Funny about the potato soup, because that is on our menu for tomorrow night. I have not tried making it before.
I was going to offer a suggestion for the coupons. (When I was doing it) I would cut all the coupons and file according to category. But towards the end, I set up a filing system that just had the date like 10-12 and I would put all the coupons for that date in there (not clipped). Then when I made my menu, if I was looking for a particular coupon, I would go to www.couponmom.com and do a search for that coupon. It would tell me what Sunday it was on (date) and then if it was PG etc. Then the coupon was very easy to find. If this doesn't make sense, just let me know and I will try and explain better.
Oh, that is what I forgot to mention (hopefully, I will be back to normal soon) but thanks for sharing how God is helping to wake you up. I always think it is so awesome to see God's hand at work in my life as well as others.
I have never made potatoe soup before but now you've got me wanting some.
Love your snuggle bunnies in the bed together. Drew will get under my covers and then say to me "Mama, you want to smuggle wit me?"
I am glad you are getting some alone time in the mornings. I enoy my time before the kids are up for the day even more than after they go to bed.
