Both boys. Last night. When it was time for Dalton's middle of the night milking he didn't cry. He was cooing instead. When I went in he still looked sound asleep. I nursed him anyway. I was barely back in my bed when I heard Easton start crying a bit. So I headed back down the hall and heard him go, "Doodlebops! More Doodlebops! Stop crying" as I walked in. Made me laugh. Even in the middle of the night. He went right back to sleep after that.
I am a big sleep talker. At least I have been in the past. And I'm especially famous for crazy half-asleep conversations--you may recall me holding up "Easton" the pillow for J to see. Anyway...
Once we all got up this morning we got ready to go to Thorntonfest. We don't live in Thornton but we live closer to Thornton's rec center than we do to our own town's rec center. Easy walking distance, as a matter of fact. So, we covered Dalton up with clothes and the rest of us with sunscreen and walked to the festival. The plan was for me to wear Dalton in the Snugli. I put him in the swing for the 30 seconds it took me to put it on and he fell asleep!
Easton started out walking:
But we moved him up to J's shoulders for the stroll there so we didn't wear out his little legs prematurely.
When we first arrived we sat to watch some of the doggie frisbee competition. "Yay Doggie!"
Easton was transfixed by the inflatable blowing pizza man.
He has continued talking about him up until we tucked him in...and then when J went back in to E's room I heard him mention "the man" again. Good grief. Seriously. He is currently obsessed with the pizza man and also an inflatable pig we saw (but didn't take a picture of). We will be looking at these pictures of the man tomorrow, I can guarantee it.
We also stuck Easton on some of the free carnival rides. He rode the barrel train like he did at Harvest Fest:
Dalton and I waiting for E to come back from his long journey around the fairgrounds.
We're very brave parents to let him leave our side at a crowded festival, aren't we? While we waited a fellow mom complemented me covering Dizzle up with clothes and a hat. I said, "Well, he's too young for sunscreen" and she was like, "Even with sunscreen these kids are all running around exposed" so I told her jokingly, "Well, don't look at my other kid then, we opted for sunscreen for him instead of fabric." Then I looked down at her daughter. A sundress. I felt better already.
Easton also chose to ride the swing ride they had. Waiting in line (check me out with two kids at once):
Easton is very un-toddler-like in his ability to wait patiently for his turn. Soon it was his turn. He was the first one on.
He spent the first couple spins checking it all out and then he really started to enjoy it. I loved hearing his happy sounds as he zoomed by us. It was really too cute. The pictures we have are exremely blurry but we can still get the gist. Hope you can too:
We were able to get a clearer picture towards the end of the ride when some of the novelty had worn off. Jason really perfected the timing at that point:
At real amusement parks I'm sure he's going to be too small for the "real" rides for awhile. The guy today said it was up to us if we thought he should ride or not. We thought he should. The lines weren't too long and they were free. After the train and swings we talked him into finding some food instead of more rides. On the way we saw face painting. The girl was using stencils and Easton wanted a football. I held the template up to his little cheek to make sure it would fit. Barely but yes. So, he wanted a red football. The painter decided to free-hand it so it wouldn't look too big.
This is what we got for our $4:
Hmpfh. Well, really the "sports" paintings were $3.50 but Jason let the kid collecting the money "keep the change" which the kid seemed in awe over. After face painting we ate some Johnsonville brats. Easton had bun. Then we got some refreshing beverages, found a ballon for Eastie, watched the doggies a bit more while we drank, then walked back home.
Easton was sooooo tired but I like the picture of him taking the easy way home on his Daddy's shoulders with his over-priced painted face, clutching his drink umbrella, and dragging his ballon behind him. What a fun morning. He went right down for his nap. Yay!
That's when Dizzle woke up. Even though he was awake for much of our "festing" we heard nary a peep from him. He's just so very easy going. Happy to simply be along for the ride (same with Field Day yesterday). When we got home the idea of sucking warm milk from a sweaty body seemed very unappetizing to me but D was very excited by the prospect and enjoyed a big lunch followed by some two-on-one time with me and J. He's a big "talker" these days which is fun. Anyway, that's why I didn't get a naptime blog done.
Once both boys were awake this afternoon we went out for an early dinner at Texas Roadhouse. Easton enjoyed cracking open and eating the free peanuts. Then we hit up Sam's Club mostly for some more soy milks for E. I love that we can buy it in bulk and that it doesn't expire as quickly as dairy does. We can stock up.
Anyway, there's more from tonight but I'll save it for another time...perhaps tomorrow?

What a fun family outing you had. Good to find things like that to do with a one wage earner family. I'm making some chicken salad:) Moo
Sounds like you all had a great day!!
About the pillow/Easton thing? When I was a few weeks postpartum with Nathan, I woke up and realized I had fallen asleep nursing him in bed, and I picked him up and walked him to his crib in our room and when I got there, I saw him in the crib already and panicked thinking "Who is this baby that I'm holding?!?" and I looked at my hands and I was holding a stuffed bear, not a baby. Evidently in PP sleep deprivation, it is easy to mistake and blue and purple stuffed animal for an infant. Who knew? *lol*
