I Keep Coming Back

"It'd be fun if all of you readers would "check in" and comment with what YOU are. Wouldn't that be fun? Wouldn't it?"

Guess not.

Thanks Jess, J, Britten, and MerrilynJ. I really shouldn't be out blogging for the comments anyway...I'll keep blogging just for me and the sake of journaling our lives. That means talking about sleep and poop issues when I want to and rambling on and on about things in my own special way. :) So here we go...

Y'all have missed out on a few things during my tight-lipped weekend. Dalton did his first giggles on Friday night. Not a full-on belly laugh yet but definite giggles and they are too cute:

He continues to be a super-happy chunk:

Easton said something funny Saturday morning. He doesn't use complete sentences 100% of the time but he's getting closer. He was cuddling in bed with us, on Jason's chest and he said, "Dada...little boogies...nose hole" as he peered up J's nostrils. Made me laugh. He does have the occasional complete sentence like, "Mama, I broke this" as he hands me something he indeed broke. We can tell he's smart, he's just not the verbal genius his friend Ellis is just yet. That's okay. It's fun to watch his language develop. Hope his pronunciation clears up more soon. He's wacky.

My latest theory on his not sleeping is that he's going through a new developmental phase...his language in this case. You know the old theory that when babies learn a new trick, like crawling, their sleep suffers temporarily because they want to "practice". Well, Easton just lies in his bed and talks and talks and talks to himself. And when we go get him after he wakes up he talks some more. He is becoming so verbal and can say some pretty funny stuff. I love how he talks to cashiers at the store...he's been known to tell them things like "hurt tummy" when he fell in the shopping cart or "look coot" on one of his particularly attractive (and conceited!) days. He tries to order food as I've mentioned before too...the smoothies, the doughnuts, or asking the waitress for chips when we went out for Mexican on Cinco de Mayo. He's a hoot.

He totally imitates things too. In Toy Story there's a part when Woody says to Buzz, "What are you talking about?" and Easton ran over and said it to Jason. In that movie they say mean things too like "You idiot!" a lot and we hope he doesn't pick up on that. What is it with Disney allowing things like that in the movies? Not to mention the scariness and violence...Buzz and Woody have that fist fight. Or mean ol' Scar in "The Lion King". And some of the aggression and mean talking in "Cars". I know this isn't a perfect world but I like to try to shelter my innocent 2 year old from some of that for a little longer, ya know? He's such a sweet kid and we hate to introduce scary things to him like the mutant toys in Toy Story. Needless to say, even though we don't embrace all of it, we still let him watch it. We (Jason and I) love Toy Story. Toy Story 2 is on our library request list now. Okay, that was random...lets go back to another picture.

Think Easton needs a stool?

He's a good hand-washer but can't exactly reach. Even with a kid-sized stool he can't reach. Grrr. Speaking of his size...Kyla are you here? I bought him some adjustable waist jeans from The Children's Place. He needs the length from pants but the waist, oh the waist!, is nearly always too big. Especially at Target as I've now learned. Anyhoo...the adjustable waists don't start till the 24 month size at Children's Place. So, we got 'em and adjusted the waist to fit. Okay, well, that worked but what the heck is the point when he looks this ridiculous in them:

Look how wide the legs are on him! Not to mention they're still rather long. Those are their "classic fit". Jason said, "That's okay, that's the style" before he really looked at Easton in those pants. When he took a closer look he agreed. Um, no way. They're going back. I need to learn to sew. This sucks. I'm glad it's summer and he can wear his 3 and 6 month sized shorts with Dalton and be fine. Once fall and "pants weather" roll around again I don't know what I'll do. The boy ate 3 yogurts for lunch today. You'd think he'd be gaining. We'll see. If anything he's just getting taller.

In other news, the Miracle Blanket has landed!

Snug as a bug in a rug. He ain't getting his arms out of this thing. I'm excited to see how it works tonight. Apparently it's been in our mailbox since Saturday. That's 2 nights of miracle-less sleep. Oh well. I'm also excited because now maybe Jason can put him to sleep too. I'm telling you, I'm an expert swaddler but our little Houdini could escape. While a good swaddler, Jason is no expert and he kept trying and trying to put Dizzle down for a nap while I cooked yesterday. He even got quite creative in his desperation and put Dalton's hands in the waist bands of his own pants but he escaped. He's not escaping this Miracle Blanket, though. No siree. Yay! Let's hope it stops the need-to-be-rewrapped waking he's been doing in the wee hours of the morning.

And some more pictures...Easton is big on stacking. Sometimes it is very impressive. For example, notice Tyrone perched atop the peanut butter and yellow trail mix holder in the background below:

He loves to stack the groceries in the cart too. No matter where he's sitting. He must be smart, right? See how smart he looks in his glasses:

And conducting experiments with fruit snacks and his safety goggles:

What else? Oh yes...here is Dalton's first wearing of an ensemble my mom bought for him shortly after she learned we were having a boy:

Dizzle likes it too:

Uh...something's not quite right about this picture:

No I did not tell him to sit on his brother. Nor did I tell him to do this:

Poor Dalton can't do a thing about these unsolicited kisses...YET!

McDonald's is having a special on the McRib...see the ad below:

I promise we try to feed him. We were so proud of him trying ham and my sauteed cinnamon apples last night. Yay on the apples but nay on the ham. Still, he tried. He loves raw apple and applesauce and all but has always been hesitant to try the cinnamon apples till yesterday. Now J has to share one of his favorite side dishes.

Finally, just one of Mr. E being cute:

He certainly has got some fangs on him, doesn't he? Don't vampires go to sleep when the sun comes up? Guess my little fanged vampire is confused because that's when he wakes up. Goober.

Those pants, Kristin! Hahaha! E could fit both his legs into one of those leg holes. *lol*

The giggles! Those eyes! The cuteness! I'm melting! The photos of Dalton this time were especially baby fever inducing. *lol* He's always, always totally adorable, but this time you captured you caught some really amazing shots.

The developmental phase makes a lot of sense. Toddlers are prone to do an end of day talk down especially during a language explosion. Katie's been giving us a hard time at bedtime lately, but once she is done fussing, we always hear her talking to herself. Last night it was things like "1,2,3, GO!" and "Awesome!" *lol*

I love Easton in the PotHead glasses. Katie always does that during therapy when they pull out the potato. I have pictures of Nathan doing it too. So cute!

Guess I didn't even see the "wouldn't it be fun if you checked-in" comment....I passed right over it! Oops! You will LOVE that Miracle Blanket! We used one just like that when Luke was young and it was a life-saver for our little Houdini too! Hope it works out well! Those pictures of your two precious boys are such a riot...especially with E. sitting on Dalton! Oops! :) Good thing he's not a chunker like his little brother! :) I love to see how they are growing through your camera lens! It's fun to see Dalton as he changes! Keep on bloggin, despite the occasional lack of comments. I've had to get past that too! Sometimes you DO wonder if anybody is 'listening'. But like you said, it's more for yourself than for everybody else!

I completely agree with Kyla. The pictures are very baby fever inducing. I may have to start forwarding your blog to Matt at work. ;)

Seeing your kiddos' happy smiles seriously makes ME smile every day. They are just too precious.
