Heck of a Hump Day

Boy oh boy, we sure packed a lot into our Wednesday.

We left shortly after 10 to head to Easton's dentist. He brought Cuddles "so I can be brave at the dentist" and we went in. Dr. Dave told him to climb up in the chair and Easton said, "I'm too little to climb" so Dr. Dave put him in. Easton cooperated as he took a quick peek and decided he needed to do an xray. Because of our bad experience with xrays at Children, Easton STILL talks about not wanting to do this when trips to the dentist come up. Dr. Dave took charge though. I've gotta tell you, it irks me so much when other people "correct" my kids when I'm right there. But, he's going to be going off to school so he's going to have to listen to other people. So, I kept my mouth shut as Dr. Dave told Easton, "Bite down on this. No...bite it. Don't push it out. Easton, you're pushing it out. Don't push it out, Easton." It didn't take too long for E too cooperate and it probably would've taken longer if it was me trying to coax him. I was uncomfortable but Easton wasn't crying or anything so I'm getting over it. The xray didn't show any permananent damage but yeah, 3 teeth are chipped from his face plant on Saturday. And that one already chipped tooth is a little loose to boot. And his gum is injured like I thought. It's all very lovely. Not. Dr. Dave said if Easton keeps "bumping" the tooth with headers into the coffee table and face plants on the concrete then he'll probably wreck the tooth to where he'll have to pull it.

I wonder if I can get him to wear a helmet?

Nah, that would probably look stupider than a missing tooth.

For his "prize", Easton picked out a pink plastic whale similar to his two plastic green turtles but he kept hiding it from me when I wanted to take a picture:

We left the dentist and went back to the mall with the giant breakfast food, since we were nearby:

Easton decided to push this:

Oops. Sound sort of familiar, AJ? Jason said, "Well it's not like he can read".

After we left playing at the mall we went to get a bowl of mac and roni (what Easton calls it) to share from Noodles with one of my Mother's Day gift cards. Then we came home for Dalton's nap, an hour and a half too late. He's such a good sport, you'd never know he was tired.

But, maybe he wasn't tired. Little dude only slept for perhaps 45 minutes. Poo.

So, I didn't get much of a kid free break as I had Easton with me for half an hour of that. Oh well.

We packed up again and headed to the library. As we were going to leave a, like, 8 or 9 year old kid asked, "Can he play?" and I was like, "Uh, if he wants to" and Easton did. So he played with the much older kid. The kid decided they'd play house and that Easton was his son and he'd pack his book bag and take him to "school" and then they'd come home and take a nap and eat and sleep and do it again. Easton kept looking at me like, "Do you see what I'm doing? Isn't this so cool?" He had fun and played really well with the older boy.

We stopped back at home briefly to pack dinner for the boys...we were planning on meeting Jason for a picnic later. But first we were heading to meet Ellis at a new play area that recently opened:

Easton wasn't having the best time at first, I guess, but I was utterly horrified when I witnessed him hit Ellis!!! Easton has hit Jason, Dalton, and I in the past but I've never ever known him to hit another child out of anger. I was devastated. I thought he was above that for some reason. Ellis wasn't hurt or anything, Easton was doing it rather than "using his words" to get Ellis to stop what he was doing. But he went immediately into a time out on a park bench while I sat there shocked. Easton's always the one getting bullied, I'm hoping he's just learned it from his friends rather than something he would've thought of on his own. Still, not okay.

He had to apologize to Ellis when he got out of his timeout of course and the boys went back to playing...sort of. After that Easton was better about using his words when he didn't like something or coming to me for help. Eventually they started playing better together as they stuck things through the grate covering a drain:

I'm not sure if I need to limit who we play with before E starts to be the kid no one wants to play with or what. I am so sad about what happened today. I know it was nothing to Ellis's mom. Or Ellis. Ember (his mom) was like, "Yeah that's what happens when your kid goes to daycare." But it was a first for us and sadly, I bet it's not the last in his life. Argh!

Part of me is so pleased to see E standing up for himself instead of being such a passive follower. Not so much with the hitting but with things I heard him saying, "Stop hitting me!" "Mommy, I don't want Ellis to eat me" "Mommy, I don't want Ellis to get me" Sure, he came off as a bit of a whiner too. But I'd rather he come crying to mommy than do things that make him uncomfortable, right?

Dalton spent much of his time on my back in the Ergo Ember is letting us borrow temporarily.

Neo isn't big enough for it just yet. Dalton was quite happy back there and played peek-a-boo with Ember and watched the big kids. Fun!

After we left the play area I discovered I had parked at a meter...but I never paid a meter!!! Luckily there was no ticket on my windshield. Whew! We decided it was too cold for our picnic plans so Jason and I decided we'd meet at Bennigan's for salads instead. The boys had had a very long day and I was looking forward to sticking them in their beds early tonight.

And that's what we did!

Easton pushed the emergency button and whacked someone? What a big day! LOL.

He's such a good kid, Kristin, and I think it speaks volumes that he's never hit a friend before. I guess because BubTar was in daycare and we went through the biting/hitting/scratching phase for almost a YEAR, I don't think of it as a big deal. But I am IMPRESSED that Eastie's never done it before. KayTar has, but for her it is an unconscious reaction to another child being in her personal space. Not that it's okay, though. She just doesn't get the whole polite society thing. ;)

You certainly had a busy day!

Poor Eastie and his chipped teeth. That's one of my biggest fears...I can't hardly stand to think about chipped teeth.

Adam had a hitting incident like that a while back. He had never intentionally hit someone else and he hit a very sweet little boy from church while we were playing at their house. I was completely horrified and he was punished right away. The mom acted like it was no big deal, but I was so upset with Adam. If he had to hit someone, I wish it would have been on of his "bully friends." :)

Anyways, for Adam it was a one-time thing and hasn't happened again. I'm sure it won't become a regular thing for Easton either. He's such a good boy!

Yowsers on E's teeth. I hope they won't have to pull any. Luckly we haven't had any chipped teeth yet. At least known that I know of.

And I agree, it does speak so much about E that he has never hit/bit/kick a kid before. With Julia being in daycare, it kind of comes with the territory, unfortunatley.

We have been thinking of getting a carrier like that for Grace. Looks like D was throughly enjoying it!
