...and I'm staying that way at least until they get the results from the labs I'll do tomorrow.
I had another NST and OB visit today. I know it's sort of hard to understand how I can be "full term" and yet on bedrest but the best way to explain it is that they're trying to keep me from developing more severe preeclampsia before they feel like they could deliver me pretty much risk-free (to Wabie). Sure, 37 weeks is considered full term and you can usually assume lungs are completely mature by then...but not always, unfortunately. "TTN" (transient tachypnea of the newborn) is what it's called in the biz..."wet lungs" to most everyone else. It's even more common in C-section babies that don't get nicely squeezed on their way out. :)
It would be one thing if a baby was trying to come on it's own in the 37th week, but it's another for doctors to think about doing a C-section at this point. ACOG guidelines typically suggest waiting till 39 weeks for elective C-sections...not that mine would be completely elective, but that's why they're keeping me on bedrest...so that it can stay somewhat "elective" and delivering me ASAP doesn't become a medical necessity. The OB today said she thought 38 weeks could be a happy medium for us. I don't know if that means 38 weeks exactly or "in the 38th week" but we'll see. Soon.
First we have to get back the lab results for labs I'll do tomorrow and just like I said Friday, if my total protein in the 24 hour urine "skyrockets" then they'll deliver me this week. I'm really hoping to go into labor on my own, like, now. Just because I'd love to be done with this bedrest business. I'd love that the baby is deciding it's ready all on its own and I'd really love it if it meant I didn't have to get any "sicker" for this baby to come out. However, nothing's happening yet. Oh well.
I was kinda hoping today that my NST would have them needing to deliver this babe now but man, Wabie's NST today was "frameable". Seriously, it was the definition of the variability you're looking for, darn it. ;) On Friday the tracing was mostly flat with an appropriate number of accels to keep the doctors happy. But today it was all over the place in a good way. Down to the 120s, up to the 170s. Anyone who came across it was very happy with what they saw.
I've started my 24 hour collection yet again and I'll go turn it in tomorrow and get the blood work drawn yet again. Because I won't be turning it in first thing in the morning it'll likely be Thursday morning before the doctors see the results. However, because I'm sitting around doing nothing all the time I'm pretty convinced (unfortunately) that my protein will be lower than before. My swelling is all gone with just sittin' on my duff all the live long day. I'm sure my kidneys are feeling the relief as well and therefore won't be spilling all that protein but we shall see.
Luckily I'm okay with the fact that Wabie's arrival is not up to me. Sure I might wish to be done with the bedrest and the burden it's putting on my loved ones but no matter what, it won't be too much longer.
Eek!
