Friday afternoon Easton and I got to make some egg cookies:
He's been excited about the holiday and I just love that he's old enough to really start grasping what it's about. Last year I think I was too afraid to even tell him what "died" meant...this year, death is strangely one of his favorite topics. Even though we still do the Easter Bunny and eggs, we also made sure to read the Bible stories about the crucifixion and resurrection. This was our first--but certainly not last--year to do Resurrection Eggs that Jessica told us about last year. We did them as more of an advent, just because it was a little something fun to look forward to every day. And that way it didn't drag on for the boys. It wasn't perfect, as I'd mentioned before, the boys opened all of 'em while Gramoo babysat that one morning. And another time when I heard Easton sweetly explaining parts of it to his brother I found Dalton eating the cracker pieces from Jesus's last supper. :) Still, it's going to be great to include this as part of our Easter traditions every year. To make sure the kids always know what the holiday is really about:
Friday night we went to Olive Garden to celebrate Gramoo's birthday. Jason got stuck in too much traffic and wasn't able to make it to join us, but we had a nice dinner.
Saturday morning we woke up and drove down to Gramoo's house for an Easter brunch with the extended family. With church this year, I knew it would be too busy for our family to try to do brunch on the actual holiday, so Gramoo planned it for Saturday and my aunt and uncle, grandparents, and Lauren's boyfriend were all able to join us. The boys looked super cute in their spring colored polo shirts. I didn't think I remembered my camera so I didn't take a single picture...later I found out I had it the whole time. D'oh!
The boys scored 3 baskets full of goodies between the two of 'em. One big one from Gramoo and one each from Grammy. The Easter Bunny didn't even need to come after that!
After brunch we headed back home. Easton fell asleep in the car and I worked hard to keep Dalton awake till we got home for his nap. After naps we dyed eggs:
Ta da! All dyed!
I then made the boys take a break while the eggs dried before we decorated them with the Disney Princesses kit Eastie picked out. The kit had stickers and little fancy stands to put the eggs on:
Jason couldn't help us. We had a kitchen emergency. Last weekend it was the garbage disposal acting up. This weekend we discovered water coming through a new vent in the basement! Jason was able to trace it to a leak in our dishwasher hose. Luckily the damage wasn't too bad and my DIY husband was able to replace the hose and get everything back together:
We considered getting a new dishwasher while he was at it since I despise ours, instead, through reading in the manual while doing the repairs we've decided maybe we're just not using ours to it's fullest capacity and we should give that a try for now. So we'll see how it goes. Normally I use the low energy wash and it's just not cutting it. We'll see how normal or even "high temp" goes. :)
Saturday afternoon I was cuddling on the couch with both boys. And they both felt feverish. Oh no! I didn't check their temperatures officially but they were both getting cranky and tired. We weren't sure about our church plans the next morning anymore!
Sure enough, Easter morning Dalton woke up burning up. He was only maybe 101 upon first waking but at some point later in the day he was up to 103.1! We're not exactly sure what the fevers are from but because Easton had a fever too I felt fairly confident it wasn't some exacerbated version of something Dalton already had...but instead a fun new infection, likely picked up at the doctor's office last week. Especially since they both came down with it at the exact same time.
Anyway, the boys acted mostly okay, not too sick but we certainly couldn't take them to church all feverish. I was bummed we were going to miss it but whatcha gonna do?
Instead we came downstairs and got to take our time going through the boys' (4th and 5th!) Easter baskets of the weekend:
Each boy got a movie. E got "Finding Nemo" and D got "Curious George". We don't have a ton of movies, especially not ones the kids are actually willing to sit through. But some days, this preggie mama would really love to just put on a flick for them to watch so I can snooze on the couch sometimes. :) We'll see if that ends up happening. Easton passed right over his Nemo but Dalton was very excited about his "Georgie moofie".
Each kid also got a recorder...only Easton calls his a flute and Dalton a trumpet. Goobers.
And a new pair of shades. E's are Batman, D's are Thomas:
They also found a few little toys...Easton's had some new Batcave accessories:
Diddles had some bubble stuff and a wind up toy.
We don't like to do a lot of candy but this year I put in the most ever: a teeny chocolate bunny and E had 3 Batman "eggs" with a few M&Ms in two of them and a few Jellie Bellies in the third. Dalton had 3 Elmo bunny "eggs" with the same thing.
Then it was time for the egg hunt!
This was when Mr. Competitive got mad that Dalton found an egg and he threw his bucket on the ground and had to take a little break for a talking to:
All better! This was after Sweet D gave his big Bubba an egg, just because, completely unprompted. Awwwwwwwww.
Need a little help here!
Dalton had so much fun at this year's egg hunt!
I have absolutely no clue how he did last year. I will have to look back. My memory is strangely failing me on this one.
Pretty soon, all the eggs (we think) were found. Certainly all the hard boiled ones had been located. :) It was time to count them, according to He Who Must Win:
Diddles only cared about having fun but he looks pretty proud of his haul all the same, doesn't he?
Bonus! Some of the eggs had crackers inside! (Not candy.) Cheddar chick-a-dees or bunny grahams. Mmmmmm:
We took it easy the rest of the day. Jason took down all our sheers on the windows so "we" (me) could wash them. He finished up with the dishwasher, he put the screen back in the basement window and made a new security bar since we lost the other one in the construction process somehow. We watched movies:
Easton played a TON with his Batcave now that he's got a few new accessories.
I took a nap when Diddles did and Jason and Easton glued the tracks down on our train table. We'll have to see if that helps the boys play with it more. If not, we'll be getting rid of it.
We tried to keep things mellow for our little sickies and I wasn't feeling quite my best either.
Both boys slept well until they woke around their normal time with choruses of coughing. That's really their only symptom of anything. D still has a fever this morning, though not as high. We still went out to get our doughnuts. The boys needed to wear their new sunglasses:
Although he's not doing it there, Dalton normally prefers to wear his upside-down. Sound familiar, Age? :)
As soon as we finished our breakfast Easton headed back to play with his Batcave and Dalton wanted to watch Toy Story. We got FOUR new DVDs over the weekend and he still wants "Woody show"???
As long as it gets him to rest a bit, I don't mind right now.
Plus Easton was very happy to have Didds otherwise occupied for a bit so as not to interrupt his Batcaving. After awhile I decided we should go to the mall. I felt an outing was in order and even though they're sick, with them in their strollers they're really not contaminating anyone. Mostly. So we headed up there for something to do. I did some shopping and then they always love to go to the Disney store and to the pet store. We did that and came home.
The weather was beautiful on the drive back and I rolled down the windows. Easton took off his socks and shoes and did the best he could to stick his toes out the window. Unfortunately their Radians (their car seats) sit so low in the car that it's hard to even see out the window, much less get one's toes up there. At one point Easton said, "Awwww, he threw up" and I looked back to see Dalton had indeed yakked and I had no idea. :(
He's napping now and Easton is doing his quiet time.
That's the latest from here!

I think my favorite part of this entire past was the part of the video where Easton said, "Jesus comes alive!" with his arms flailing about. That totally cracked me up.
So sorry to hear your boys are sick. And Dalton puking in his car seat...so sad. :(
I'm glad you guys had a good Easter before the sickies hit. Hope the movies will help for everyone to get some needed down time.
Sounds like you have a great Easter besides the sickies. The kids made a haul.
My boys sure enjoyed the videos (a couple times). That was cute with D and his trumpet...lol.
Happy Resurrection Day since I didn't get around to saying yesterday.
