The Playdate with "I"

Thanks everyone for feeling sorry for me...no one mentioned the pictures, though! :)

So the playdate was this afternoon. "I" was very sweet and trying to play with Easton. His mom kept encouraging it as well...and while Easton wasn't flat out rude or anything, he preferred climbing. We could get them to play chase or whatnot more than a few times, but it was very frustrating and slightly embarassing to have my kid be so anti-social...I honestly think it's because it's related to school. He is normally quite friendly with strangers. In fact, he was itching to play with some of the OTHER kids there, just not "I" quite as much.

"I"s mom bought an ice cream sundae for her boys and one for my boys. It was so sweet. I really like all three of them and it was so nice getting to know all of them. The mom (a "K" as well) is super sweet and was great with my boys. Dalton kept wanting her to hold him...but then her little "C" would get jealous. So she'd hold 'em both. They are darling little boys. I don't often love strangers kids but they really are great (and she doesn't even know about my blog so she won't know what I'm saying).

Towards the end of our 2 hours there Easton started to cry. About beans. Yes, beans. He was hiding up inside a place meant for balls...

And then he just held out his hand and said, "Beans". Presumably from the "Jack and the Beanstalk" Max & Ruby he watched this morning. But then he decided to start crying. Not that he was really sad. Just more proof that he's quite strange and decides to just be "sad" sometimes. Honestly that's how I picture it going at school. That he walks over to Mrs. M and says "Mommy" like he said, "Beans" and then eventually decides to cry LOUDLY about it.

It's hard to be sympathetic with the way he was acting. He was crying over make-believe magic beans. No he didn't think I had beans. I offered him pretend beans...wasn't cutting it. It was just that he wanted an excuse to cry or something. So perhaps there is something deeper going on I should feel more sympathetic about but, dude, beans???

We needed to head home to finish up dinner anyway. So we said goodbye and "See you in the morning!" to our friends. Then I ordered the boys a Happy Meal to bring home. I was one of those pain in the butt moms that asked the counter girl to show us all the Star Wars toy options they had available. We have 2 already and Easton really really wants a Darth Vader bad guy one. That wasn't a choice...I explained to him that it might not be. And he lost it. Didn't want any of them. Fine. I picked a Yoda FOR DALTON while Easton wandered around the fountain drinks wailing.

I think some of the employees on break must've thought he was a lost child with the way I was ignoring him and his cries. After they caught on that I was with him one offered him a hug. One offered her hand. Of course he refused. He's Easton. Mama's boy.

We came home and Easton couldn't even choke down a single nugget. It was literally about to make him gag. I don't think Dalton ate much either. Groan. No more Happy Meals for us for awhile. Unless I think Easton could eat a burger. But I heard Burger King has mac and cheese now. Hmmmm. Something to think about.

Anyway, our playdate wasn't a total loss, but it didn't go quite as well as I had expected or hoped. We'll try again. I don't have a lot of hope for tomorrow at school, but I'm trying to fake it.

Hope E will too.

Uggghhhh. I can feel your frustration through your posts. The conflict of he needs to suck it up and deal with it versus what have I done and how do I fix it for my firstborn? ...or I may be way off base.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that tomorrow shocks you and goes well.

Stay strong! Years from now when he doesn't want to be seen anywhere in a 2 mile radius of you, you will remind him "There was a time when you never wanted to be away from me and would cry and cry..." He will then just roll his eyes at you and say "Whatever."

Glad to see that you like the other family. Always fun to make new friends that have kids the same ages.

Awww, I'm so sorry about E. He's having a rough transition.

I'm glad you made a new friend, though! That's a nice surprise.

Doesn't sound like Easton's best day. Poor kid. I know it's hard to feel sorry for him when he's throwing fits over imaginary beans and Darth Vadar toys. And I would probably feel the same as you if I were his mama. But since I'm not, I just feel really sad for him. And for you. :(

Easton has no idea how many people are rooting for him to have a great day of school tomorrow!

poor guy. Cameron has moments like the "bean" incident you were describing quite frequently. Calling "Dr. Ama" !!!

Oh, bummer. I was hoping that the playdate would turn things around and he and I would be great friends. Not that they can't but it may take more time.

Not a good afternoon to an already difficult day.

I love the pictures of them in each other's beds. Very cute.
