Sleepover Success

So back to yesterday after quiet time...I actually woke D up from his nap a little early because we had plans to play with Isaac and Caleb at the mall. Their dad joined us too. Easton and Isaac played together a little more...chase and such. It was pretty cute however Easton wasn't playing as fair. If it was E's turn to be chased of course he loved it and was playing, but if it was his turn to chase Isaac, sometimes he wouldn't want to do it or he'd stop mid-chase to do something else (climb) and poor Issac is still running around thinking E is following him or he'd think Easton was going to pop out and get him. Kinda sad. I had a few talks with E about playing fairly and taking turns and he did better.

Dalton kept getting knocked over just to get hugged. That's Caleb's thing...they called him a Sour Patch Kid because he's sour and then is sweet. But Dalton is afraid of Caleb coming near regardless. :(

At some point I gave Easton the "two minute warning" and he said, "Yay!" because he was so excited to get to go to Gramoo's. As it was a Friday, rush hour starts a lot earlier and he kept telling me, "You have to drive faster, Mommy!" As we got close we had to call my mom to come meet us...her street was being paved and you couldn't drive in or out!!! Luckily her car was on the corner otherwise it would've been a long walk with the heavy carseat (E's Radian has a steel frame!) I didn't even get Diddles out of his seat and just moved Easton's seat over and he got his overnight bag he'd packed. My mom carried his pillow and we brought his bed rail since he'd be sleeping in an unfamiliar spot up a lot higher than his own bed. I said goodbye to him on the corner and he walked off...

...so we drove off. And noticing Bubba was missing Dalton started crying, "Bubba! Bubba!" and reaching his hand to E's empty spot in the car. :( He recovered before long, though. Not long into our drive my mom called. I got all nervous but she just had a funny story to tell me. She asked Easton if he wanted to go miniature golfing and they showed him pictures online and he said he had to do that with his baby, his mom, and his father (not dad, father)...but he agreed to go with them too.

Dalton and I continued on our drive, where I got a little lost on our way to meet Jason at Mimi's Cafe for dinner. We walked in and the hostess said, "Just the three of you?" and J and I exchanged a glance before saying, "Yep". No one knew we have two boys. It felt a little weird but nice too.

It took us a long time to decide if we wanted to order just Dalton a meal...the boys usually share, of course. But we went ahead and got him some macaroni with a side of french fries and he ate some of it...and some of ours and some of the free bread...wouldn't have cared as much if his meal wasn't $4.29!

So dainty...

We filled up on food and drove back home. Dalton saw some balloons floating over a store and he kept shouting, "Hurry! Hurry! Balloon!" He talks so well compared to E at this age.

When we got home the 3 of us played around for a bit. It's really nice to be able to focus on one kid like that and to know Easton is getting great attention where he was too. When J's playing with both boys they obviously have to take turns and do activites that both kids can do...but being able to make it all about D was a nice change too.

Before long we headed upstairs to start bedtime. Dalton went right into Easton's room because that's what we always do. He even tried to pick out one of Bubba's books to read...but we moved him into his room with his books:

Bathtime was fun...J hopped in with D:

After D was out and dressed for bed he went back into Bubba's room and climbed on his bed. :( That's just how we always do it. Instead we brought him back in his room and he wanted to say "an Amen" about 3 times. So we did. Then he didn't want to leave his daddy's arms for a bit which was fun too. Eventually he came to me so I could rock him but if you've read the post below this, he didn't want me to. So he went to bed quietly.

Jason and I played cards. He taught me how to play Gin. He kicked my butt. I guess he didn't teach me all the strategies ;) Nah, I'm just a sore loser.

This morning I nursed Dalton at 6:15 but never could go back to sleep. Why is it when given the chance to sleep in I often can't? Grrrr.

Dalton slept until 8:55...and as soon as he woke up I woke up J too and the three of us snuggled in the big bed in front of some Elmo. Then we had breakfast and I did a little cleaning before Easton arrived.

Apparently his sleep over went great! He had plans and ideas of his own such as wanting to watch approved parts of Star Wars instead of doing any mini golfing. He slept in Gramoo's bed with her, got to take a bath in her garden tub, got to go to McD's for breakfast. I think they'll both be up for an overnight again before long! They've still got a list of Gramoo's ideas of fun stuff to do. I think it's kinda cool he was having so much fun already that they didn't need any special activities, but I know she came up with some fun stuff.

When he got home Dalton was sooooo excited to see him...I came down and E was pretty indifferent to me, didn't give me a hug or anything. He started being a tiny bit of a punk taking something away from Dalton (which is unusual for him) and I had to get on him for it within minutes of him being home.

Then I took him to swimming lessons and he said he had to go potty before we went in. He had just gone at home so I knew he was stalling. Only about 10 minutes into class he started acting like he was about to cry. I really couldn't hear what he was saying. The teacher talked to him and he had his second turn floating around with her. When she brought him back to the side of the pool he walked over to me crying. I didn't know if she'd sent him over to me because he was crying or what. But we had a talk...I tried to bring him back. He refused. So against my better judgement we left.

We picked up Jason and Dalton who had walked to the nearby park and came home. I told J he could take Easton to swimming from now on. I'm tired of trying to make my crying kid do stuff. I want someone else to have to be the "bad guy" sometimes.

The boys are doing quiet time now.

I was in a great mood this morning and I've kinda let my day go downhill. Boo.

glad E had a good time at gramoo's! I am ready for Cam to do an overnighter somewhere! Breaks my heart that D was missing his brother so much :( At least he got some one on one time with just you guys. That's always nice :)

I hope your day picked back up after writing this post.

Sorry swim class didn't go so great today. I know he usually loves it so much. I hope next time (with J!) will be better.

His overnight sounded just perfect! I know they had a blast. I'm really gonna pull for Adam to have an overnight visit sometime soon.

Great bath pictures! Dalton is so sweet for missing his brother. But I bet he enjoyed the extra attention too. :)

Sounds like a great time for all!
E is becoming such a young man.
It is bitter sweet to see them grow up.
