Serious Stalker

As if my playground spying yesterday wasn't bad enough...now I've gone and stalked someone else...

The first day of school in the "cry room" I met a handful of mom's from Easton's class. One of the mom's I met has a son in E's class (we'll call him "I" for now) and a son that is roughly Dalton's age (henceforth he shall be known as "C") :) She was the one that works at Sweet Tomatoes.

Feeling desperate to help Easton make some friends and give him someone familiar while he's away from me I decided to call this mom at Sweet Tomatoes. I had no other way to get ahold of her. I knew her first name from meeting her and her last name from the attendance sign-in sheet. So I called up the restaurant and asked for her.

She picked up and I told her my situation, "I'm Kristin S...Easton's mom from "I"'s class. I'm really sorry for tracking you down at work. But, Easton is having a really hard time adjusting, none of the kids want to be around him because he cries all the time and since we have boys the same age I was wondering if you might want to get them together to play at a park or McDonald's or something sometime soon. Blah blah blah."

She said, "How did you find me you crazy woman? Hang up and leave me alone or I'm calling the cops!"

Okay, not really.

She was perfectly lovely and we made plans for Monday afternoon. Whew. If I'm making Easton step out of his comfort zone then I'd better be willing to step out of mine in order to try to help him, right? It is very unlike me to basically cold call some potential friends like that. But the mom is very nice and told me that "I" says he doesn't like school either and that he hasn't talked about any friends or anything. So maybe this can help both of them? I dunno..."I" and Anthony (who got the boot) are the only two kids' names Easton knows.

Then she invited us to come have lunch TODAY at Sweet Tomatoes. I said, "Oh I'd love to take you up on that but I just put Dalton down...he wasn't very fun to be around." She invited us to eat there after the first day of class too. I thought it was a joke, honestly, but she must've meant it since she excitedly invited us again today. I like her already. :)

In other news, today was Easton's first gymnastics class. But first we had to rush to the library before they opened to return some DVD's before we got fined $1 for each one. So I stuck those in the drop...and we waited a few minutes for the library to open. We got some books and movies. Before Easton even picked out one for himself he said, "Which one do you want, Dalton?" So so sweet, he is. Then we played for a few minutes and left.

We had a bit more time before gymnastics was to start at 10:00 so we stopped by Old Navy. Easton needs a new coat for this winter and we're trying to find one. The didn't have any coats yet but we did find him a shirt to match some of the black athletic pants we bought for this season. Easton thinks it's funny.

After that it was time to rush over for gymnastics. We walked in maybe 1 minute late (had to stop at the potty) and it was a class of 5 girls. No matter. We knew not a lot of boys take gymnastics compared to the amount of girls. So Easton stripped off his sweat pants and jacket to reveal his special yellow "costume" and I brought him over to the circle. He adjusted just fine and sat right down to do the warm ups where the stupid coach KEPT saying, "Great job, girls!" Argh!

About 10 minutes into things another boy showed up. I was glad for that. The class was cute and very age appropriate. They basically did a few sort of obstacle course-type things to practice some skills and to use various equipment. Then they could all be doing stuff at once. Except Easton is the smallest one. So the coach assumes that he's fragile or something and they're giving him more help than he needs...when it's not something they do for all the kids. Like jumping off of the vault...they'll offer their hand and he takes it. But some of the kids they don't offer it. And again, one time after he jumped down the coach said, "Good girl!" I said loudly, "Dude, he's a boy" not so the coach could hear me but the mom next to me sure could. :)

Easton did great, he follows directions and did everything he was supposed to. The only thing I noticed is that he doesn't always get the taking turns thing. Same thing with jumping off the diving board at swimming he always wanted to cut. But if someone says, "Hey, I'm next" or "It's my turn" or "You go to the back of the line" he does without putting up any kind of fight. So, we'll have to work on that a bit but otherwise he did super:

We came home and Dalton was too cranky to stay up with us for lunch. He woke up at 6:25 this morning and was in need of his nap, for sure. So he was down right after we got home and Easton and I had some lunch just the two of us. We talked about how we'll play with "I" on Monday and won't that be fun? And how he has a baby brother that Dalton could play with...and I could talk to his mommy? And how they might want to play on the playground together at school too.

I hope. I hope. I hope.

You are such a smart mom. I love the "if I expect E to step out of his comfort zone then you must be willing to step out of yours as well". You are my wise friend :)

The clouds are starting to lift and the sun is beginning to shine!

...and seeing as he does fine at gymnastics he will do fine at school. He just needs some time to ease into the situation.

Now I need to watch the video. I needed to wait for Izzy to get back from the potty ;)

I hope this works out! I'm glad the other mom was nice on the phone, and good for you for calling! I'd have been nervous, too.

E did great at gymnastics!!

Yea, today is a much better day!

I think it's great you called the other mom. (Does she get a letter too?) Sounds like all 3 of you could end up with 3 new friends. Sweet!

E is a super star in his gymnastics class. Lovin the costume. :)

omg, I love that you "cold called" a mom! That's awesome and I bet you guys will be come good buds ;)

I would have been SO peeved if someone kept referring to my son as a girl. How annoying! lol

You are such a good mommy stepping in to help/defend your kids. With Easton making friends at school and then trying to correct the coach that Easton is not a girl.

I love the video. Easton is going to have such a blast and the coaches will soon learn that he is more than capable.

Just went back and watched the video. Does he sleep so well at night after that class? ...or did he take a nap? I would think it would be great for the exhaustion factor!
