School Today

So, it didn't go as well today as it did last week.

Jason has today off of work and so we all took Easton to school. Well, Dalton and I stayed in the car. Easton asked me, "Mommy, can you please come watch me for a lil' bit?" because he was getting nervous. And Dalton started getting mad that Easton was leaving and E said, "Dalton! I'm going to school!" as in, "calm down...this is what I DO, you'd better get used to it." Dalton and I stayed in the car and played:

Jason walked E in and said that Easton started getting a little pouty as they got closer, that he asked J to hold him, that he told the assistant teacher, "I just want my Daddy." But the assistant teacher told him that a guinea pig was out again and he walked in and never looked back.

However, E was in tears when J went to get in him two hours later. :( They motioned J over into the classroom so they could explain. Apparently he broke down when his Batman band-aid came off while he was on the playground. They tried to give him another one but it was plain and so he got sad. However, *I* feel that the band-aid thing was just his excuse to cry.

I have no idea how long he was crying or if he was a little sad before then too. I hate not knowing these things. I hate not knowing if he was swinging or climbing when it fell off. I hate that I don't know if he just burst into tears and they had to ask what was wrong or if he went to someone to tell them. I just don't know. It's so hard not knowing.

He didn't stop crying till he'd been in the car for a few minutes. When we asked him what his favorite part of the day was he said, "I just really missed you." :(

So, THIS is a little more like I was expecting it to go. I'm proud that he went in to the classroom without tears but hate that MY kid is the exception to the "he'll do fine once you're gone" or "he'll be having so much fun he won't miss you". Yeah, right. I'm dreading Thursday now that he's got this "negative experience" associated with school and not a lot of positive ones to outweigh today's bad one. Darn it.

But, while E was at school the rest of us went and had breakfast at Atlanta Bread Company.

Then we had to come home and change clothes because it is COLD out there today. I felt bad that Easton was in shorts and a t-shirt. I sent him a jacket in case they went outside, I was glad I did. I offered him pants or shorts this morning, thinking it would be in the 70s. He picked shorts because "all my kids wear shorts". Trying to fit in already.

But we unpacked all of Easton's old 18 month fall clothes and put them in D's closet. He's set for fall. Now I've got to try to find some more stuff for E. D got a few new things for the season so it's not total hand-me-down land...but he really really doesn't care. We care for him. But if I'm buying new kid stuff the money has to go to E's wardrobe. He's only got a few things and it's already getting cold here. At least today it is. Must get shopping! :)

Bummer! Maybe on Thursday you can let him keep an extra Batman bandaid in his pocket, just in case. Maybe it would be soothing.

I think you're having a little separation anxiety, too. ;) It gets better, though.

aww poor guy. I am sure he was feeling a little sad for more reasons than the band aid but that is expected. I bet by next week he will be doing much better being away from you guys. ;)

I'm sorry to hear that today didn't go as well as last week. I hope this will not be a reflection for this thursday.

Darn. I had so hoped that every school day was going to be met with the same enthusiasm as last week. Drats.

I really do think school is harder on the mommies than the kiddos.

I am sorry! I think its bc the fun of it being new wears off. Kate was great today until she saw me (I saw it all happen) and then she BURST into tears. I think its all the stress of it being new, staying up later, new rules... Hopefully E will get into the groove soon and love it. I am kinda dreading Thurs too! Its hard. I totally understand. I want to have a video and watch them all day. Love, Cori

Oh no! I hate to hear that at least part of Easton's day was not good. The loss of band-aids can cause some serious problems. I'll never forget some of the fits Adam threw over having to have a Cars band-aid on his smooshed up finger earlier this year.

I really hope tomorrow is a much better day for Easton. And for you too.
